So you've conceded WS already ? =D>
I must say that growth is still feasible. There is still room for AFL competition teams in Canberra, Tasmania and Darwin. A look at TLPG's website shows room to introduce the game to many centres in northern New South Wales and outback Queensland
Basically you need a population catchment of 400k to 500k.
Canberra and Tasmania are already heading in the AFL team direction.
Darwin is way short of the required population but but is counterbalanced by the huge enthusiasm for AR there.
Cairns is a little short on population but AR is developing in Townsville.

Suns snap up Townsville high jumper
ANTONY STEWART | December 14th, 2011

THE biggest gamble of his life proved anything but as Josh Hall went from Olympic hopeful to Gold Coast Sun during yesterday's tension-filled AFL Rookie Draft.

After more than a few nervous moments, Townsville's former international athletics high jump star was selected fourth by the Suns and 94th overall.

A wave of excitement took Hall over when he received a phone call giving him the news.

Remarkably, the 21-year-old was in a Suns team meeting when the draft was on, and was none the wiser of his selection until afterwards when his mother called.

"It's exciting - to be wanted by the Gold Coast is pretty crazy," Hall enthused.

Why do your clubs need subsidising to play there? and, why would WS who are going to draw sub 15k crowds for a while want or need to play at an 80k seat stadium? you make Taipan look smart.

they're greatful for a venue that costs next to nix to play at
why wouldn't they ?

why would you play at a venue that costs 100 grand a game to play at
ova one that costs nothing ?

same question to GWS
why spend it on developing a venue , when one exists for free .. 300m away ?
is the AFL & its clubs so egotistical & worried about image ... they'd prefer to piss it up against the wall would they ?
See, this exact same debate got me banned from LUs main forum, Brutis (the liar) started a letter writting campaign to the state government head honcho's, screaming 'but there's a perfectly good stadium next door blah blah blah, do this and we wont vote for you waa waa waa, why should we folk out 40 mill on a new stadium? waa waa waa', and he stirred up quite the frenzy too (although, he didn't send any letters  ), what him and the other tards just refuse to realise is it's in NSWs best interests that AFL succeeds in NSWs, the government doesn't take into consideration the hardcore anti AFL movment when deciding on grants nor they should, they look at what's in it for them, employment, GST $s etc etc, lets face it, if the NSWs government was spending 40 mill on a state of the art ping pong stadium no one would've said ****.

And i know where you're going with this, and you're 100% right, of course the AFL doesn't want WS playing in an 80k seat stadium with 12k crowds, but, they have commited atleast 100 million dollars into your economy, if they succeed the NSWs goverment 'could' 10 fold that investment within 15 years, think of the traveling Collingwood mob, 10k min, hire cars, motels, food, fuel, tickets etc etc, now they'll mostly get that 2 times a year, and that's just for one vistiting AFL team.

Ask yourself this question, if the NSWs government gave the Sydney NRL clubs a 60 million $ grant, what would change?, it wouldn't increase crowds, it wouldn't increase interest, fact is because of your leagues appalling attendance rates, the NSWs government gets jack **** from your comp, that's a fact, so tell me with your brain inserted, what's the better investment?

Do you have any idea what the Melbourne RL/RU/Soccer stadium cost BTW?

the Govt that did this deal..... did get voted out
& don't compare AAMI park to this debacle of a waste of NSW taxpayers money

if we had an 80K seat rectangle .... hell even a 40K one that existed next door to where AAMI is now
do you think we'd of asked for AAMI to be built
do you think we'd of got it built if we did

NO is the answer to both questions
Govt's had better tread carefully where the AFL is concerned up this way .... the AFL promise everything & deliver nothing
the nthn media are not on to it much yet
but watch them set on like rabid dogs when GWS are playing to miniscule crowds at Skoda
a waste of money they'll scream .... whos responsible ?
& they'll be right too [-X [-X [-X

Bolts Hadlee is waiting ... as is Alan Jones & other comentators up this way
the pasting GWS ... & the AFL are gunna get in 2012 ... will be relentless when the shock jocks start on about Skoda & what it cost NSW taxpayers
unlike the duped dopey sthn press .... the AFL do not have the Nthn press in their pockets

GWS need all the " feel good " stories they can get
but by the time the Sydney press are done with them ........ they'll be as inviting as sticking your head ova a bucket of hurl thats been left out in the summer sun for a week , n taking a deep breath ...........
