they wanted 5K people to sign up for $50 down here & gave them 6 months to get this number
the 6 months past .. they had about half that number .. so they extended the sign up period by 3 more months .. with a few weeks to go .. they were still about 2K shy
so they then got the local AFL clubs to buy the rest
& trumpeted what a great feat it was

they are going to be one of Australian sports most spectacular disasters

Stop making rubbish up Raider. You'll see next season when like the Suns on the Gold Coast, the Giants will be bigger than the NRL clubs in western Sydney. Mark my words, in a few years Penrith Panthers will be seeking merger talks with Parramatta Eels or Canterbury Bulldogs.

Hey the impression has already been made not by me but by the NRL, its clubs and the Sydney media. If that wasn't the case, perhaps you could explain the constant paranoia displayed by the NRL and its clubs in western Sydney. I've read numerous articles from NRL journos reporting that NRL clubs in western Sydney are very concerned about the AFL/GWS setting up a team. So concerned in fact that justs last week Gould and the Penrith Panthers were seeking an urgent meeting with the NRL after the AFL/GWS did a letter drop to Auskick participants in the region. Are they on some serious weed to be so paranoid?

Perhaps the NRL and its clubs in western Sydney are just arrogant in assuming Rugby League is the "greatest game of all" and the only game that people in western Sydney can be interested in.

they're not concerned & nor should they be ... but they are focusing , the AFL has a lot of dough , thankfully a dud product , but plenty of moola & they'll need it all just for the midgets to be a basket case

Clearly the NRL, club officials and media are very concerned. Paranoid and fearful seems a more apt description. They know their product is inferior to the indigenous Australian game that millions of Australians right across the country love.
