Thank you, Hammer.

Now then - let's compare revenue shall we, based on 66% percent of crowd aggregates as a starting point.

AFL aggregate: 4482023
NRL aggregate: 2077213

66 percent;
AFL: 2958135.1
NRL: 1370960.5

At general admission prices;
AFL: $63,008,277
NRL: $39,757,854

On that starting point, the AFL is up on the NRL by over $23 million WITH A LOWER ADMISSION PRICE!!

Incorporating memberships will take a little longer to work out, but that's a bad start for the NRL!!
wow wow

your formula is floored & all ova the place on a couple of fronts
1) you are using the $21.30 as the average price for an AFL membership
wouldn't be anywhere near that .. some would be .. most wouldn't when you consider kids pay only $2.50 to be a member

it is not that expensive as an average... I'd say the average is no more then $15 per game per member but be my guest & prove otherwise

2) you are saying the NRL also has 66% of members as part of their attendances ... we don't have anywhere near that number
its less then 40% at our games , but also I don't think our average membership price is anymore then the AFL's at $15 a pop

so lets do it right shall we

66 percent; ( Members)
AFL: 2958135 X $15 $44,372,025
NRL: 830885 X $15 $12,463,278

34 percent ( AFL non members ) happy to have all of these pay $21.30
1,523,888 X $21.3 $32,458,81

60 percent ( NRL non members ) these will pay the $29 NRL average
1,246,321 X $29 $36,143,32

total receipts for memberhips & gate takings for the AFL for 16 rounds
$76,830,10

for the NRL
$48,606,30

to be more then double the NRL , which is what the AFL & their ill informed fans are always saying .. your revenue would need to be
97 Million
it isn't .. its a long way from being double
this is the smoke n mirrors I was refering to ... I am once again
Right

Stop lying, Raider! $21.30 is for general admission, not membership! The same applies for the kids - $2.50 for general admission!

Second, I said that 66 percent of the attendance at AFL games (I never mentioned NRL) were ADULTS. Not members. Someone else said it was members, and was duly rebuked for it and rightly so. Because memberships incorporate both club and league memberships, I would say that it would be somewhere in the order of about 45 percent.

So your attempt at maths is just as wrong as you claim mine is - and I did say that my figures were a starting point and NOT final! There's still a lot of work to do, given that club memberships are not a static price across the 17 AFL clubs.

who said it wasn't the adult general admission price ( $21.30)

its NOT the minmum price for a full paid up member of a club per game
this is much less then $21.30
I said 66% of AFL attendances ..are made up with members
they are ... how can 650K members not make up this % of attendance ?
if they don't ... what are people sigining up for with an AFL membership .. a scarf & a bumper sticker 8-[

your calculations are a dogs breakfast
mine are about spot on

You assume that every member attends every home game. They don't because many members live interstate. There are fans with memberships of West Coast, Fremantle, Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Coast in Melbourne for example. Hawthorn have members in Tasmania that can attend the games in Launceston but nowhere else. There are members of all 17 clubs who live in the Northern Territory. I could go on.

My estimate of 45 percent is closer to the mark for this reason.

The reason AFL supporters take out club memberships is for a primary reason. Attendance at games is a bonus, not a primary reason. The primary reason is to support the club financially and keep it going. And they do it because they love the club they support and want to see it keep going.

oh
so there are 650K AFL members ... 55% of them according to you don't pay much for it
so the smoke n mirrors is not in game attendance
but in the membership numbers

I knew it was somewhere

It's pretty simple really when you compare the numbers of viewers across the nation. There's just nothing that matches it bar say holding the olympics or a football world cup in the country.
Umm, the AFL Grand Final is consistently bigger than any State of Origin game in Rugby League. Unlike the SoO series, the AFL Grand Final has nationwide appeal in huge numbers.

the SOO has more appeal .. it has beaten the AFL GF several times
& so has the NRL GF

the 3.8 Million for the last game this year , won't be beaten by any other TV show in 2011

590K for the game in Melb.. Perth & Adelaide ( on delay in both )
will beat the ratings for the AFL GF in Sydney & Brisbane

so no
for nationwide appeal
nothing beats SOO

It takes two games of SOO to beat the AFL grand final where it counts - in live attendance.

Comparing the TV ratings of NRL in Melbourne against AFL in Sydney is like comparing apples and oranges. You have to go wider to get the true comparison.

they can't ... fact
the biggest ground they play at holds 82K :?>

doesn't mean they wouldn't ... cos they would.. in a heart beat
105K tickets sold for the 2 games in Brisbane in less then a day

christ knows how many would have gone to that last game in Brisbane
if it had a stadium to hold them

Then why don't they increase the capacity? I'll tell you why - because it won't be worth it.

Leave that out of the equation! You need it to pay your bills! The AFL doesn't!
