There was no money because there weren't enough sponsors!! Why? Because they didn't care enough about the NRL.pussycat wrote:IN the finacial war with News ltd, and the inflated costs due to it, a few clubs were sent to the wall or didn't fit into News Limiteds plans. But in the near 100 years prior to that, since the games inception , we've only lost about 4 clubs.TLPG wrote:Blah blah blah blah blah.
You're like a stuck record. We don't rely on handouts to survive. We don't need to because it only happens on an as needs basis - and that's not often.
NRL clubs = leeches because they don't care about themselves enough. That's why franchises collapse in the NRL and DON'T in the AFL.
During News Ltd's takeover of our game, all funds were needed. There was no money to prop up ailing clubs.
Add to the list St George and Illawarra Steelers. Oh and the Storm are sucking tens of millions out of the NRL each and every season.AFL Warrior wrote:I suppose Newtown Jets, Adelaide Rams, Hunter Mariners, Balmain Tigers, Western Suburbs Magpies to name a few don't count then?
Since when have the Melbourne Storm EVER been accountable and paid their way??? The NRL/News Ltd buy them premierships and they still need to cheat. Meanwhile no one in Victoria could care less that they are on top of the ladder.Raiderdave wrote:it shows our clubs need to be accountable & pay their way
What was that Raiderdave that you said about NRL handouts not existing? Hmm, lying again.QRL calls for Titans financial inquiry

QRL supremo Ross Livermore has called for the NRL to launch a full inquiry into the Titans’ finances following fresh revelations the club owes three entities more than $25,000 in unpaid debts.
Livermore’s plea came as a leading Queensland-based jersey manufacturer, Triple Play, warned the Titans faced another lawsuit if it did not pay money the company has been chasing for five months.
As the Titans continue a legal dispute with former builder Simcorp over their troubled $22 million Centre of Excellence project, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal:
* The Queensland Rugby League claims it is owed $18,000 in unpaid development fees by the Titans, whom Livermore says are the only NRL club yet to pay up;
* Triple Play is owed $5775 for guernseys provided in January to the Titans’ under-16s and under-18s squads;
* Another company, Total Hire, says it will never deal with the Titans again after alleging it was forced to write off $1500 in bad debts when the Gold Coast failed to pay for equipment hire at the club’s Centre of Excellence site; and
* The Titans are attempting to resolve a dispute with the Queensland Government, which began legal proceedings last month seeking $226,278 in unpaid payroll tax.
The series of outstanding monies raises further queries over the fiscal health of the Titans, who have twice sought advances on their NRL club grant totalling $2.3 million.

they get nothing more then the grant from the NRL .. like all clubsBeaussie wrote:Melbourne Storm also get an annual handout from the NRL/News Ltd in the tens of millions to put a team out on the field.
Getting back on topic though, the Gold Coast Titans financial woes must be a real worry for the NRL now that the AFL's Suns are in town with almost double their membership and much bigger crowds.
