The NRL show the Broncos 7 times in the first 20 weeks, so clearly they target Friday as their main game. Why wouldnt they? You think they want their best rating game to have less viewers?
The AFL target Friday, just like the NRL, but to suggest it's best game every week is asburd. This Friday we have two middle of the pack Melbourne clubs playing. Rnd 4 we had bulldogs v Nth, both who are struggling this year. Sydney are in plenty of Friday nights and they had their worst start to a season in their history.
As for you overlapping theory, full credit to you for spinning our longer game as a winner for ratings! Well done on that doozy!
The Broncos and Melbourne are the only Metro clubs outside Sydney. Brisbane are shown just as often on Thursday and often on a Saturday.
The AFL have played the Western Bulldogs 7 times in the first 17 weeks. The Swans 5 times, and will appear in the next 2 Friday night matches?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????. Meanwhile Lions - freemantle - Suns will make 0, zero , nil, zip Friday night appearances.
The bulldogs are one of our smallest clubs.
The AFL attempt to get interesting matches on Friday night, they make no secret of this, and the NRL do the same by showing the Broncos and other larger NRL clubs. However, this can come seriously unstuck if these clubs perform poorly. This has been the case in the AFL where these clubs have been regulars: North Melbourne are in the bottom 2, StKilda were expected to improve but are middle of the pack, Essendon the same, Melbourne the same, Swans were horrible for the first 7 rounds, and hawthorn were bottom 4 for the first half of the year.
As for the lions etc, the NRL may show their bottom clubs once for the year on Friday night. Dont tell me theres a big difference because there isnt. Both codes show their better teams so the comparison is fair, and you're losing 15 v 4. I dare say if you were winning you wouldnt have a single complaint
yes but how can you do APPLES WITH APPLES>>>
when for the AFL FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL is the biggest GAME outside of
ANZAC DAY AND FINALS>>>
Though with THE NRL>> it is not as high regarded as it is in the AFL
they say it all the time in the AFL>> if your on FRIDAY NIGHT
YOU HAVE MADE IT TO THE BIG TIME>>>

Better comparison
Which code had the most sets of eyeballs on them through the year .
Oops
You don't like that comparison because your sport is only a silver medalist .

that's a good question..
It is prob the closest way to the compare a like for like game up against each other..
but I believe the AFL have a few advantages over the NRL in this regard.
and it is not promoted as the NRL's big match..
2018 may change this when NRL takes over scheduling..
because I think the scheduling at the moment>> thanks to the networks SUXS!

also a very good point PUSSY>>>
NRL Grand finalist x 2 rematch were played on a sunday afternoon and a Thursday...
further highlighting that Friday Night is not the NRL's Night of nights...

My hypocrisy? I'm the one saying the Friday nights are generally very comparable, or at least as comparable as we get with current scheduling. Yes the AFL target Friday, but to suggest that's our only good game, or the best game each round is blatantly incorrect. In fact, as I've said in a previous post, the scheduling is based on who did well the year before, which often fails given teams can decline in one year. The bulldogs are a perfect example because they've been dismal this year and have driven ratings down.
I do address the fact our worst sides dont appear on Friday night! I concede it's our better sides, however we have included a number of FN games this year with teams that have been poor, such as North Melbourne. You need to concede your poor performing clubs appear rarely on FN also.
Picking every single game v single game isnt cherry picking when there are nearly 30 for the year. They include games on public holidays, on Thursday nights and Friday nights. During those 30 games both codes have had a chance to have poor games and better games. Fact is you're not just behind, you're getting annihilated. A perfect example is a few weeks ago when the 3rd placed Broncos faced the 1st placed storm, and you got well beaten by a fairly average and quite one-sided AFL game. If the AFL had a first placed swans play a third place Collingwood or Essendon the ratings would have been huge, they certainly wouldnt have lost.
If our round results prove we rate poorly we rate it's funny we basically win every round

Both codes have advantages and disadvantages on FN
NRL have:
- their biggest club playing almost 1/3rd of them, who are also usually in the finals
- their entire heartland in the one time zone so every FN is in primetime for their whole market
- a heartland in two states so a single game can appeal to both
- a shorter game for better ratings average. Although this apparently advantages the AFL because streams of NRL fans then switch over to watch the end of the AFL
- a game that finishes before 10pm so less drop off in the late evening
AFL have:
- a longer game so NRL fans can also watch the last quarter of AFL

Doesn't that mean theyre also AFL fans?
- heartland slipt over 4 states so no single game appeals to the whole heartland
- heartland over 3 time zones so some states get the game very late or very early prime time
- their second biggest market gets the game on 7mate which always rates lower than 7
- a later finishing game so if the game is one-sided many wont bother staying up until 10.30 watching a thrashing
- a longer game for a worse ratings average
However, this game is the best we have

I agree with your posts..
however the NRL having a 6pm game on Friday night
and more Thursday night games, takes away the "prestige" Friday. 8pm Kick Off.

and the AFL have Saturday night games on FTA which takes some of the focus off FN. The second NRL game on FN may take some ratings away, but how much would be hard to tell given the 8pm game is the only one on FTA and your FTA ratings are down significantly

For the past two rounds your Friday night match has got almost1/3 of your ratings. That's just 1 match, 1 of 9 matches has got almost 1/3 of your ratings.

without a Thursday game it's one of only 2 prime time games on FTA, and by far the most popular night for watching sport. The rest of the games are non-prime time on FTA or on fox. It's no surprise FN makes up a large proportion of our round

the Saturday game is after the Friday game.(so it would usually affect the Saturday)
as it's the 1st game off the rank..
the Friday Game pretty much out rates Saturday by a fair margin...
even when doubling 2 games. can rarely beat a Friday timeslot.

Same even for finals from memory. More people are home Friday night, more are at events on Saturday
