Umm you might want to check that source, Media week stated the test between Tonga and Samoa rated 116k. Hawks v Freo was 94k in perth on FTA and 122k on Fox shown against the Pies V Tigers game.

They may well of outrated them on FTA - The Samoa game wasn't on FTA. However both games where on Fox.
Ps
Samoa 169k
Brumbies 143k
hawks 122k

except the AFL game was again up against another game and FTA

Sorry, hadn't seen the correction. So the Port Adelaide Game was the only one the Samoa beat - if you don t include the school boys league game.

What the other game get 85 k? That just shows you have a limited amount of fans. AFL gets 200 k x3 on saturdays.

Yeah you could say that. But you could also say that it was live on FTA into SA and Qld.

On FTA or PTV the NRL win easily. Does a hollow victory from having 4 FTA games to 3 (3 live to 1), 9 PTV games to 5 give you some type of peverse pleasure? On FTA or PTV the NRL rate much better - simple fact!

I could'nt imagine that there would be to many people , who had forked out for PTV , and were then watching the FTA coverage.

Hardly limited fans. Nz were the other team - so is still 460k for just 3 fan bases.
Your Adelaide match got the numbers for both sets of fans and still fell short of 95k.

If you love the local AFL teams in Adelaide or Brisbane you dont need pay TV ever. Every games live on FTA.

The only game that is much of a muchness is the Friday night games and even then the NRL has two games with TV into the favoured market place. The AFL could have gotten a much bigger TV audience by doing what the NRL has done and gone with Monday, Sunday and Thursday night footy, every game independently shown live, but they have chosen not to do this. Instead they have given the fans at the games what they want and fans outside the heartland a chance to watch their teams live. Lots of saturday and Sunday day games for the kids to attend and most games on live FTA TV into the home markets.
When AFL games have been shown seperately from other games the ratings are about the same as the NRL. Friday night at best for the NRL is a draw with AFL winning more then losing and thats often with two games merged for the NRL. round 1 for the AFL showed this.

This will show the difference between AFL saturday and sunday Foxtel ratings when the games dont overlap
Round 1 AFL (no overlaps)
North V Pies 326
Dees V Power 192
#aflgiantsswans 244k
#aflsunssaints 242k
#afldogslions 168k
#AFL #aflfreoeagles 252k
Average 237k (with FTA for all games but the top one)
NRL Saturday and Sunday games (about a four week sample I can get more if anyone is unhappy overlaps on saturday night)
#NRL #NRLNEWCAN 216k
#NRL #NRLCANSGI 219k (FoxSports)
#NRLCROWAR 225k
#NRLSYDBRI 286k
#NRLGLDMAN 283k FoxSports
#NRL #NRLCROSGI 343k FoxSports
#NRL #NRLPARCRO 298k
#NRLNQLPEN 257k FoxSports
#NRL #NRLWARSOU 212k
#NRLCANSYD 199k
#NRL #NRLSOUMEL 379k
#NRLNEWPEN 228k
#NRLCANWAR 85k
#NRL #NRLGLDPAR 204k
#NRLMANCRO 194k
Average 243K
Not a big difference with the AFL games having FTA ratings taking away some of their ratings. You could argue that round 1 is a big round and I am happy to continue the study when we have the bye rounds for AFL. You could also note that NRL has 2 saturday night games on fox at the same time.

The Nrl may have began Monday night football but the AFL began Thursday night football.
Kids play there own sports on a Saturday. Stop with hollier than thou attitude. Demetriou's as much or more a businessman as anybody. The NRL accepted the lesser offer from 9/foxtel for the good of the game.

Pies our first 4 rounds proved that NRL rates over a million on friday even without the double header you see now.
AFL cannot touch NRL on FTA or FOX ratings those are the simple truths that some on here cant except...
