International AFL vs International RL
Re: International AFL vs International RL
Jan 8 . . SAFL . . Helsingborg West 2.3 (15) v Påarp 2.3 (15) . . . . . .
That was the only result though, which seems to back up my point, along with the fact that World Footy News is only putting flashback news on it's website at the moment. They wouldn't be doing that if leagues were playing now.

Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

Well put it this way, we're moving into the height of summer/winter so you wouldn't expect much on.Topper wrote:Jan 8 . . SAFL . . Helsingborg West 2.3 (15) v Påarp 2.3 (15) . . . . . .

Just announced that Eden Park will host the 2012 ANZAC Test match.
Anyone know where the Aussie Rules test match is next year?

Re: International AFL vs International RL
There is no such thing as a test match in AFL, cooee. It's called either International Rules or the International Cup. Where and when are rugby league's version of those?

Firstly the AFL is the name of a competition. Aussie Rules is the name of the sport. You should know that.
As for International Rules, we don't have to play some hybrid game just to be able to play another nation. We actually play other nations in Rugby League.
Our version of your International Cup would be the University Rugby League World Cup. On the same level in terms of public appeal.

Re: International AFL vs International RL
We call it AFL. AFL NSW/ACT. Sydney AFL. AFL Canberra. Should I go on? Aussie Rules is a colloqualism that is seen as low class in the non football states. The International Cup is played by adults and not university students. The number of countries that play it put your rugby league world cup to shame last I looked at it. And we're smart enough not to allow Australia in our cup in which it would dominate. Unlike your rugby league world cup where Australia just kills everyone else with only New Zealand even getting close, and making it a non event.

Our World Cup teams have to qualify unlike your International Cup. If they can raise enough funds and find enough ex-pats any country can enter your cup.

Is that why both NZ and England have won the RLWC and why NZ are the current champs?
Is that why France has also played in 2 finals?

Re: International AFL vs International RL
I guess that's why RL will have a 14 team WC next year and we will have almost double that in the University WC?

Re: International AFL vs International RL
I did some research, cooee, and I can tell you that for many years the RL World Cup was frankly a joke in my opinion. There wasn't a final or even a proper tournament within a short time frame. A qualification process is not needed in my opinion for a weak sport. The only World Cup that needs a qualification process is soccer. The only reason RL has a qualification process is because of the lopsided nature of the strength of the competing countries. Australia has won every RL World Cup since 1975, except for the most recent one which everyone that I've spoken to says was a major upset. The process for the International Cup is more encouraging for participation by countries and that's why it attracts more. According to Wikipedia, 14 teams will play in the next RL World Cup. This compares to 18 teams at the last International Cup and that didn't include Australia.
I am presently seeking a source, but I believe it is the rule in the International Cup that all players for each country can NOT be an Australian ex-pat.
EDIT: Here it is;
Expatriate Australians are ineligible to play in the International Cup. Teams are comprised solely of amateurs who must be nationals of the country they represent. All players must have lived the majority of the years aged between 10 and 16 as a citizen of their nation.

.
so you're comparing your international slap n ticklefest played by amatuers out for a giggle .... to a world cup played mainly by fulltime professionals
the last RL World cup here in Australia averaged 18K a game
the final played in front of ova 50K & it was watched by ova 3 Million people on TV in Australasia
the annual salaries combined of the 34 players in this final would have been ova 15 million dollars
your international .. high how are ya .. haven't see since the last time we pulled a singlet on .. cup
was watched by 4 people n a dog for pool games ... they couldn't include the kids on the jungle jim as they were there for a play
the final .. they had a few galahs come in for a look too
TV.. it was filmed on a hand held cam corder ... does that count ?
the combined remuneration for the players in this final ... an extra pie per player
thats a fairer comparison I'd of thought.

Re: International AFL vs International RL
First Rugby World Cup was in 1954.
First International Cup was in 2002.
Yeah you might get good crowds, but we're just getting started! From acorns grow oak trees, Dave. AFL is expanding. Rugby League is sitting on it's thumbs just asking to be run over internationally! They're not in it for a giggle. They're in it to win!

Australia isn't even allowed to compete in your giggleball cup.
Re: International AFL vs International RL
and rightly so. They'd obviously win every cup with a canter.cooee wrote:Australia isn't even allowed to compete in your giggleball cup.
A bit like another WC I know of.
