More than one million viewers watched Collingwood's much-anticipated clash with traditional rival Carlton at the MCG on Sunday on television, making the match the first Sunday game to exceed one million viewers nationally since 2009.

Collingwood's 17-point win over the Blues was watched by 1,036,086 fans around Australia as well as the 84,247 fans that packed the MCG.

As already said before, the NRLand ch9 target FN with multiple games using matches involving teams from multiple markets, usually the Broncos because embarrasingly for the NRL they are the only team for 2 million people.

Its not like they couldnt do the same thing and get more viewers. Where they may lose out on FN for 1 hour of ratings they win in spades for the rest of the weekend.

FRIDAY night football will be off limits in the push to equalise the competition's riches.



AFL boss Andrew Demetriou said the showpiece Friday night match would not be shared around to help cash-strapped clubs.

"We have given a commitment under our broadcast agreement and our anti-siphoning agreement with the government that the best game will be on Friday night," Demetriou told the Herald Sun.

"And the clubs all accept that they have to earn the right to get a Friday night game."
