Its a fact that audiences trough and peak during a telecast. This will always mean shorter telecasts benefit from a higher average. Why do you think they code programs? The NRL have had this artificial advantage for years and I haven't seen you complaining. While its national audience of 721 was boosted by 290,000 viewers for the AFL show in Melbourne, the Sydney NRL version fell to 161,000 viewers, dropping 93,000 on the previous week and 220,000 on the season opener (although figures are confused a little by over-runs).
