Yep, not bad considering RL people don't feel obligated to become members like the......ahem.......Melbourne centric folk. Myself being a point in case - I have barracked for the same team for decades but have never become a member - even after I moved to Sydney. I don't need bumper stickers and club key rings to prove my allegiances.

It aint a Melbourne thing champ, just look at the membership figures for the Swans, Eagles, Dockers, Crows and Power

He has a point there. Maybe just different cultures.

Its SIMPLE really..

THE AFL introduced Memberships for clubs way back in the 80's give or take..
and slowly took off getting more popular each year..

Looking at the stats of some of the AFL CLUBS they just keep thriving..

As we see with the NRL... On the membership front
were not as quick as the AFL and took pretty much well over 2 decades to switch on..

and seem to going at a steady pace ever since...

Sydney Swans break membership record

Ahead of tomorrow night’s Sydney Derby XII, Swans members have rallied in record numbers setting a new all-time membership record.

A record 56,524 members have already signed up for the 2017 season, surpassing the previous record of 56,523 set last year.

At 10am on Friday morning the membership tally sat at 56,544.
