Sun TV: Metro #NRL Grand Final #NRLCBYMEL 2,401,000 (Syd 957k Mel 751k Bri 564k Ade 57k Per 72k) Nine
nice try nrl but no cigar
excellent figures in Melbourne, but not surprising given Melbourne's love of sport and the time slot is far more viewer friendly than saturday afternoon.
very poor figures for Sydney though.

Good figues should get about 4 million maybe a little less if you go by the SOO results. Excellent figures for Melbourne would be interesting to see what an AFL grandfinal could do at twilight or at night.

What the grandfinal results tell me is that both codes would do very well in the rival captial cities if the other code didnt exist. Maybe we should look into running both codes on alternative weeks we could almost double the ratings for both codes. NRl would have to introduce a aedlaide, Perth and another Melbourne side to really make it work.

previous NRL GFs get around 1.1M regionals. The only reason this game got near the SOO metro figures is because of Melbourne's figures which were 400k up on normal. Otherwise it was probably quite low in comparison to other NRL GFs. Sydneys figures were the lowest for a number of years and for this reason id say the regionals wont be more than normal. Therefore around 3.6M max.

Same can be said for the Swans ratings in Sydney, so please stop with the excuses already...
1.1m so you mean to tell me that the NRL which shits over AFL in regional Aus is going to get the same amount of regionals as the AFL...Please i will go with Pies on this and say we will get close to 4million all up.
So all in all the NRL has 4 ratings programs in or about the 4m mark and the AFL has 1.........NRL domination.. =D>

I wasnt making excuses at all. The NRL figures in Melbourne were excellent, but overall the figures were down in Sydney by nearly 20% on other years. My point was you cannot simply look at the SOO metro figures and extrapolate the expected regionals because a large proportion of the metro figures for the GF were from Melbourne, where as the SOO was predominantly Syd and QLD.
As far as regionals, go with what you want, but you will see I'm correct. The regionals for every NRL GF in the last 4 years have been 1.1M. Regionals for this years AFL GF were 1.1M.

The only reason you think the NRL "dominate" the regionals is your sources (ThinkTV) only provide ratings from 4 regions which only include QLD, NSW and VIC.

The GF regionals are for the entire country.

Whether its 1, 2 ,4 and 5 or 1, 2, 3 and 5 it's not bad for a sport that's not supposed to be National

Sun TV NRL GF #NRLCBYMEL updates: Metro 2,551,000 Regional 1,316,000 Total 3,867,000 (Best since 2006) Nine
See close to 4 million as Pies said.
You were predicting 3.5m......
3,867,000 and we are still waiting on NZ ratings which will push it above or on par with the AFL.
As pussycat says not bad for a 13 a side code and a code in 2 states apparently... =D>

1.3m regional is the highest in the last 5 years and the metro audience was updated so my prediction was 250k off. However I think youll agree its still 200k lower than the AFL GF despite being on Sunday, in prime time and a shorter telecast.

Your maths skills are terrible mate.
4.050m - 3.867 = abit under 200k you twatt...
NRL did rate 700k on NZ sky last year so i would imagine it will get atleast 200k which will put us ahead of the AFL..again... =D>

Hey do the AFL have a broadcast deal with canada? NOOOOO
Does the AFL have a Canadian team in the AFL? NOOOOOO
You doofus you are new to this site ill let that slide...
NRL is played across 2 nations and we also have a TV deal with NZ so suck it up buddy your game is limited to AUS.. =D>
Furthermore RL is watched and played in more countries then the AFL, it is not even close if we were to add all the telecasts for the NRL up and put it against the AFL.
Mat visit the International thread on this site if you wish to find out RL vs AFL internationally, its quite the lough.

Haha, exactly. Each game was broadcast to many countries. This is about the most popular sport in Australia. And the AFL win it again, despite being played on Saturday arvo.
