Good on Southport for putting up the cash to fund the school's lighting upgrade.Phelpsy wrote:Oh, I was at my sons football presentation and the president mentioned it in his speech. It's a 30 year deal between southport junior football club and the school. The agreement with the club will put the lights up and the ground is available for training or games should the junior ground be closed due to rain affected. I said the rugby league posts are being pulled out and an AFL ground and posts put in.

You're a funny derro aren't you? I live in canberra, and In canberra no one besides the vic migrants give a shit about AFL and are all into the brumbies and mostly the raiders too. GWS will be extinct in canberra too if they attract 6k compared to the brumbies 15k and raiders 11k. Bye bye GWS

So why don't the nRL star using some of their $1b to fund RL programs and facilities. You're right, you do have money now, so start using it on grass roots. You've been saying all year that it's game on now that you have money, and yet here we are, with yet another case of Australian Football investing in grass roots while the nRL sits on its hands.Raiderdave wrote:but even if it were true
do you still maintain we aren't fighting a war ?
It would be typical of the slime known as singletball to pay..to have all competition to it...... removed
it is the only way it has even half a chance of getting anyone interested in the nthn states .... it is that lame a sport
we haven't had the dough to fight back for some time
now we do & this type of disgraceful behaviour will not go unchallenged.
this is a state school
& it will be forced by Govt ( who have been pressured by the NRL ) to find a venue & facilities for all sports & include them in its sports program
not just some bumbling crap from Victoria
local RL clubs will encourage parents of kids who play RL.... to not take this shit lying down & if they want their child to play RL at school .. well they WILL.
K f wit ?

Quite a few dads from the club went and my sons grandparents flew up and all thought it was a good crowd and good atmosphere. I'll be going to the giants game, and with the injuries to the suns wouldn't be surprised with a giants win. I am thinking a good crowd too but Father's Day may hinder that.
Not yet, but the work at grassroots level being done by organisations like Southport, and the community engagement of the Suns, will in time see the balance shift towards AF. it will take years, but we're a patient bunch.Jackyboy wrote:Phelpsy wrote:Mean while ... Well good on them i suppose, but according to AFL supporters GC is AFL heartland. So if its AFL heartland, pretty dodgy crowd

As to your remark about the 13k crowd, answer me this very simple question:
If you believe (as I do) the GC is currently RL heartland, how would you describe the fact that the Suns have a higher average attendance than the Titans?
"Dodgy" perchance?
