The goal line for rugby league is 68 metres, crossing that gives Rugby their highest score.
The Australian rules goal is 6.4 metres.
Rugby seems to need a lot of room to score.
And initially tries had no points value.
Field goals and goals from marks were the ways to score the highest points until changed and/or abolished.
Why the change?
Much easier having a “goal” of crossing a 68 metre line than actually scoring a real goal.
