AFL v RL which code has gotten the most GOVT $$$$?

1) Money given to stadiums isnt given to a sport
2) Adelaide Oval and Optus Stadium both replaced venues built in the 70s and were scheduled for major upgrades or rebuilds.
3) Almost every single one of these stadiums is used by Cricket for half the year, but apparently the money doesnt go to them in your book.
4) Each and every one of Adelaide, Perth and the MCG are heavily relied on by state governments as tourist draw cards and state promotional vehicles. Like hosting internationsl soccer friendlies, union tests and Origin.
5) The AFL contributed to Metricon, the showgrounds, and Adelaide, and pays an annual sum to the MCC for finance, above and beyond rental costs.
6) MCG upgrade costs to Government have been in the order of about 140m for a stadium mostly funded by the MCC and its AFL contract.This has been true since the 1988 rebuild.

2.Same for Suncorp
Parra in the 80s ..cowboys stadium ...Melb had a venue built a long time ago .

I think if the AFL go to the government/council and put forth a case and say “hey, this ground here needs an upgrade... this would cost you maybe 80 million (say). So it will probably not get done as that’s a lot of tax payer money... it would be great for the community, create some jobs, and is a community asset. So how about we put in 20 mil and we get this, this snd this ...but there will also be netball courts, basketball courts, a couple of rectangle ovals and multi purpose rooms to use. We can go to the state government together and see if they’ll chuck 40 mil and that leaves you 20 mil to put in. It’s a win, win, win for all concerned. I think that is good business smarts. Look at the training facilities at Metricon ... look at Metricon itself.

The way Metricon was built it was cleaver AFL knew their was some commonwealth games on so they sat down with the government and worked with them.
Just after the ground a built the gcs change rooms, gym etc was in portable dongers and until the commonwealth games were on with facilities built just before

I don’t think you can seperate the two Terry in the context in which the discussion is framed. It’s a very narrow view, and possibly self-serving to just look at money given. You need to look at it fully. The amount that it put in is one part of that. I don’t think you could say minimal by the AFL .. but when the nrl puts in nothing ... well. Also the revenue drawn. The AFL actually get people to their games in big numbers. It’s why governments argue over and pay for SoO games ... and try to get grand finals ... it brings in money. And I do think it matters ... crapper May want to try and skew the topic with a very narrow focus (no surprise there).
