The AFL had been expecting a sellout crowd of about 11,000 and came close to hitting that number with an official attendance of 10,689 - slightly higher than last year.
AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan attributed the empty seats to the fact many spectators had flocked to hospitality marquees behind the grandstands.

However, that claim was challenged by journalist Damien Barrett on the AFL’s Sunday Footy Show.
“This game, Port Adelaide versus Gold Coast, at Shanghai, China … if there are 10,689 people in that shot … they have made that number up,” Barrett said.
“Why try and present to us there are 10,689 people there? The ground wasn’t even half full. They’re trying to tell us it’s full.”

I didn’t see any of the game as my team wasn’t playing and have no care in port Adelaide!
