Re: AFL bid for ANZ Stadium to become an oval stadium could cost NSW the NRL grand final
Yet you argue as f it were true and don’t apply the scrutiny you did to other articles that are unfavourable to the nrl. That’s my point... objectivity. Did you challenge the “leaked source” or point out no quotes from nrl or AFL ? No. You said if it is true ... then when on to argue as if it were.

The_Wookie wrote: Sun Oct 29, 2017 6:42 pmAnd I agree they wont, but you never know if you never ask. I think ANZ is a red herring, they have to know theres almost no chance there, this is all about the SCG IMO.Terry wrote: Sun Oct 29, 2017 12:09 pmI agree Wookie, no harm in asking. In this case they won't get it.
I think the AFL will somehow soldier on, as will the Swans, their 50,000 members and 38,000+ average crowds at the SCG.The danger for the AFL is they will be seen as spoilers. Most people that follow the Swans would follow other teams and codes as well. If the AFL pisses these people off by ambit claims on ANZ there could be a backlash - especially when the Swans have the inevitable slide down the ladder at some point.
Sydney media band go at the AFL whenever a code war can even be remotely sniffed. Its no different in the Melbourne media when league use the MCG or soccer gets something. And some in the Sydney media are finally giving the AFL grief over this move after decades of only positive press. I suspect they will now quietly pull back and hope for a little bit of loose change at the end of the process.
Thanks messiah!!!! Lol.

When rectangle codes are played at MCG / Adelaide Oval / Ethiad Stadium>> as a once off its ok..
try playing there week in week out>>
Even when they are played at these venues.. it looks embarrassing on TV >
the rectangle pitch is 30 to 40 meters from the crowd lower seating>>
let alone the camera angles>>
NSW GOVERENMENT are sure taking there time for approval of the stadiums issues.
but ill forgive them>> there doing so much Infrastructure projects in Sydney atm

AFL will have to use ANZ more than once in two years if they want any real say in the stadium staying oval.
To say they want to keep ANZ oval just incase they need it in the finals probably won't cut it.
The Giants struggle to get their little home ground half full most of the time.

The Daily Telegraph has exclusively obtained a letter from Victorian-based AFL supremo Gillon McLachlan to NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, where he pushes a claim for ANZ to be maintained as an oval-shaped venue in the looming $1.6 billion stadiums allocation.
The brazen bid comes despite the AFL and the Sydney Swans virtually abandoning the Olympic Stadium over the past 12 months as the game struggles to fill neighbouring Spotless Stadium, even for elimination finals matches.

Seriously look at the averages and even look at the most recent finals series, $15 to free tickets and the crowds were still shit!
The AFL charges a premium and the nrlll charges bargain bin prices and still has to give tickets away!
GWS are a 6 yr old expansion side in an expansion area compared to 8 or 9 nrlol teams where some are 60 plus years old located in league heart land and gws still average better than several of them!
GWS popularity will slowly grow!
Look at the swans for a good example! Easily the largest club of all codes in NSW

At the end of the day far more spore sports would benefit from a rectangle stadium than an oval.
Soccer, Rugby, Union and Grid Iron exhibition matches.
GWS is half a club in Sydney. They play half their games in Canberra. And their home stadium is all they need as is usually half full if your lucky. They will never need ANZ.
I am sure common sense will prevail. AFL is pretty irrelevant in the argument when they never use it.

Maybe AFL should just look at some of the money going expanding the scg for large scale AFL games. That would make more sense than keeping ANZ oval when most AFL fans hate it as a venue to start with.The_Wookie wrote: Sat Nov 04, 2017 9:56 amAnd they probably wont get it - I say probably because one never can really count out the SCG Trust.
