I find it absolutely disgraceful that the AFL takes it upon themselves to tell me how life should work.

I know how life works and gay marriage was never an an institution for a reason.

What kind of democracy is not allowed to discuss consequences?

The AFL should be very careful who they get into bed with as this whole ssm debate seems very very dodgy to the majority, even the gays themselves. When you've got businesses and media outlets trying to convince telling 10 million voters they aren't allowed to discuss the consequences of what their kids are taught at school you know you've got a propaganda campaign on your hands and the AFL might never live this down.

The AFL should stick to charging people like wounded bulls and stay out of politics and their fans bedrooms. Even the gays know this is a dodgy way to bring about policy: how many times has this process been followed?

None, exactly.

The AFL should make a party and join the senate

there very good at Politics...
Exactly: who are the AFL to tell me what life is and how society should operate?

If the AFL want to encourage the non-debate of consequences in an apparent democracy they better be able to defend those exact allegations.

Is the AFL trying to tell me I'm not allowed to even question what my kids will be taught at school?

The AFL should be very careful who it gets into bed with because a large majority of people are questioning how dodgy this whole ssm campaign is when it has businesses, media and politicians all trying to tell 10 million voting consumers that they have no right to examine the consequences of policy change when everyone that ever lived was taught to examine consequences of action.

Does the AFL know what democracy is or are they so big not to fail they have decided dictatorship is where this country should be heading?

Somebody must have got angry that the money they gave the AFL to watch a game of football was being used to push through gay education in their kids schools.

If the AFL want to get political then they had better start explaining themselves as to exactly what cause the publics money is going toward or else a case of fraud could be brought against them.

Wookie, why don't you let others have an opinion?

I pay my money to watch the footy and if that money ends up going to run a political campaign then I have a right to say that seems dodgy to me.

When you are talking hundreds of millions of dollars from FOXTEL subscriptions over many year deals then you have a political big deal.

The AFL had better start explaining itself to the fans: that's all I'm saying.

I certainly demand an explanation as to this devious and deceptive looking behaviour from a company under jurisdiction!

your the only person I've heard from who seems upset by the AFL's actions. Maybe it says more about you than them

Ah Fred we have more than 1 person
Try again
1 point

& what you can't seem to grasp is that people have come out in RL.
There's no prob .they are treated no different
So anyone in future who is proud to be gay knows it's NOT an issue in his sport .

Your backward sport still hasn't crossed that bridge
A gay male player still doesn't know if he will be treated the same or not
If the redneck southern bogans will want to string him up .

Go read what Acker said
I don't think much has changed .
You may have a point. You must remember though that AFL players come from and play across the nation as a whole so not confined to southern bogans.

For me, I was just saying there should be no need for a gay person to have to come out. The fact there is often a push to do so shows how far we still have to go as a society. The day where no one cares and it is the same as heterosexual relationships will be a good day.... but... we are not there yet. So I agree we are still on that part of the journey where being gay is seen as something unique or different or even unusual that it needs prominant people to come out and say they are gay. It will be a good day when this is not even a topic.
Fred when an organisation like the AFL
Beats it chest ..proclaims loudly how they are a leader in this field
How great they are blah blah .then don't they look a little foolish when not one gay male player has come out .

Especially when other sports adressed the gay issue decades ago .

Smoke & mirrors
& people like you fall for it .

As did every other sporting code in the country

Lol yes codes said they supported
But how many had a logo change ..with a pic of the boss & co in front
How many Big noted how they were a LEADER ..

Thats more on the supporters than it is the league. Then again maybe the players just dont want to - the AFL wields a pretty big media microscope and not everyone is comfortable with that. Stacks of gay women players were out at the AFLW launch and nothing was even mentioned about it.

& has been posted before the stigma of being a gay women is nothing like being a gay man
Especially when other sports adressed the gay issue decades ago .
yeah that one gay guy in the 80s really puts the NRL out there.

& you ignore the fact that a referee has come out
& there's been no issue at all
What that tells us is any future gay player can come out if they wish & will know that there's no problem
No stigma
That being a gay man in Rl is OK.

A gay player in the AFL has no such luxury

Smoke & mirrors
& people like you fall for it .
People like you would criticise the AFL regardless

I criticise because the big noting chest beating done by this mob is bullshit
They do it with other social issues ..leader leader leader
Look at us look at us

Yet it's bullshit .

& you ignore that being a gay female has far less stigma attached than being a gay male

I wonder why

You ignore the work the AFL does & round and game that it promotes yet the NRLOL does nothing

Your logic
AFL homophobic

Nrlol had a player come out in the 80/90s became a celebrity for 5 minutes to make money
Nrlol not homophobic

Wookie, you don't let anyone have an opinion: you must be a feminist!

If you banned me you would be an even bigger joke than you are already. You can't tell me I don't have the right to question the AFL backing a campaign that won't let consequences be examined in a democracy.

The whole ssm debate thing is very fishy and I have the right to say so.

How can you have a democracy when you aren't allowed to discuss consequences? The very first thing we teach our kids is to examine consequences and I put it to you that there would be no society if consequences weren't examined.

If you want anarchy then that's your mental illness.

Well what a contentious issue this bloody yes no vote has become.

I must say I commend the AFL on their significant symbolic statement with the logo. Symbolism and taking a clear stand on the matter is commendable and I have to say I respect the statements made by the racist Eddie McGuire on the matter yesterday in response to the racist homophobe Sam Newman.

However, I agree with the intelligent points put forward by most our NRL fans in this thread. The AFL present as very tokenistic when they take the symbolic support like changing their logo and having a round of footy dedicated to supporting the gay community when they show cowardice in taking a firm stance against homophobes and their homophobia permeating within the organisation. Same as their take on racism, saying one thing...looking the other way/using the escape route argument that it's a societal problem when it actually occurs and rears its ugly head within...
