You'll probably find it would be the same with league! People will think it's rugby union but with a bunch of uncos playing

I think if you judge a game by thinking they should do what your used to in your sport you're probably missing the point.

It's like an Australian rules fan complaining that you can throw a ball in rl or that you have to throw it backwards. Or not understanding that it's not that easy to simply run around a player ... or asking why the opposition player doesn't pick up his opponent ?

Maybe by pet membership, but not by tv viewers.

Membership, revenue, crowds, sponsorship and high tv ratings ... looking at all that ... definetely biggest and most popular. Highest home and away, highest finals, highest rating game last year..... it all adds up.

Yes, we couldn't expect that team to play anyone as some are dead or old. Just as we can't expect the all Australian team to play another country as there is no other country to play. They are both just representations and recognitions.
