What were the FFA thinking.? One 70k crowd for a local derby and suddenly they think soccer is popular in Sydney? :?>

Friday night, a paltry 14,688 for the top of the table Sydney FC vs Melbourne City ANZ Stadium blockbuster.

Saturday night, just 16,231 for the Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne Victory ANZ Stadium blockbuster.

Embarrassing TV ratings and well over 65,000 empty seats on both nights. Oh and and the Big Bash is yet to start here in Sydney. Look out soccer. They have big participation numbers apparently. :(/

Well considering AFL can't even get close to half the number of registered players in NSW as Soccer. What does that make AFL?

Really is hilarious how much of a threat you AFL losers see the real football as. Your insignificant bunch that follows a sport nobody outside of Australia will ever know about or care for. =D>

Is just a fact of life. AFL is a nobody sport stuck in it's tiny Southern bubble.
:(/ =D> =D>

And the only reason soccer struggles professionally in Australia is all the top players in the sport get bought by much richer leagues in Europe.
And it's professional league is very recently established.
Yet is still manages to smash AFL to pieces in Australian participant numbers despite having not even having a tenth of the promotion money of AFL.

So go suck on your little dick and think about those hard facts Beaussie

Pretty sure Western Australia and Northern Territory would not consider themselves southern. Also all those playing in numerous leagues in qld and nsw would be thinking they are not southerners lol

Well Fredo - this is where your feeble cognitive function lets you down time and again. You just can't grasp what the more intelligent posters mean.

In this case he was referring to the power base of the fumbling game in Australia. If you put a line across WA extending from the northern border of SA you will have Victardia, little Tassie, and the desert states SA and southern WA. Within that southern part of Australia you will have 99% of this country where fumbleball is the number 1 game.

The Northern territory and north WA are desert wastelands with a total population of a couple of hundred thousand out of 24 million - statistically irrelevant. In any case the NT thankfully has a good presence of RL, RU and soccer.

NSW and Qld have 54% of the total populations of this great country and are the financial and academic powerhouses of the land. As we know RL is king in the all powerful northern states whilst the fumbling game has pockets of uneducated supporters like yourself - usually expatriates, women or members of the LGBTA community. You live and move only in your small enclave of fellow fumblers and have an overstated and totally irrational perception of your place in the sporting world.

In short - once again you are wrong. Fumbleball is demonstrably a southern game. If there is any part of this post you cannot understand please get your mama to help you. Cheers.

You see, this is where the archenemy of 54 percent falls fowler. It assumes all of nsw and qld are rl. First of all, nsw has had and continues to be divided along two codes . Rl and ru. Now I know ru is in declining but Aussie rules is picking up some of that middle upper class demographic. Secondly, Aussie rules has a strong presence in regional areas such as the Riverina. In fact in some of those areas it may be bigger if not on a par. Whereas rl is virtually none existent at grassroots level outside nsw and qld, especially when you compare to Aussie rules and soccer. It here are also pockets in qld where Aussie rules is very strong. Take the Gold Coast area for instance. Several leagues for senior teams, a strong junior league and good participation numbers. It is played in schools and several have excellence programmes. Even on my drives through Brisbane I see AFL ovals quite regularly and in schools I see kids playing Aussie rules at breaks along with soccer and league/union. So to claim it is a southern sport is just simply wrong. Rl would love the presence Aussie rules had in non traditional states. I

I think the barrasi line ... which I think you are referring to but a little off... has some relevance but fails to take into account the march of Aussie rules both across and indeed behind (Mackay, port Douglas, Gold Coast etc.

So there you go. See if you can respond without insulting someone.

But either way... I'll be up for it... until I grow tired of it anyway. I'll let you know when I bored with you as a heads up. But in the meantime ..... amuse me and fill in this stormy afternoon whilst there is a delay in the crickey.

Way you go.

I applaud you Fredo for at least attempting something vaguely resembling an intelligent post. (Ignoring of course your grammar, spelling and tortured syntax).

Your problem is that you suffer from confirmation bias making it impossible for you to think objectively about sport in your immediate area and generally at large. You travel around SE Qld furiously counting fumbleball goal posts, colours, paraphernalia and other fumbling zealots wearing anything that looks vaguely like fumble team merchandise.

Every time you perceive any of these manifestations you rejoice in the great god Fumble and your bias is confirmed. I suggest you mix more widely in your community and seek professional help if you can't break the shackles that bind you.

Good luck and Gods speed.

Agreed Fredo. Now if you can just resist the urge to scour the crowd for anything resembling fumble merchandise you will be assisting your recovery. I suggest you don't watch the game surrounded by fellow fumbling zealots as you feed off each others bias and exacerbate an already acute condition.

I wish you all the best for the festive season Fredo and please don't hesitate to PM me if you need any extra assistance or intervention.

I reckon you VFL apes should be scared. Give it a few years and a presence on one of the mainstream channels (other than SBS Vice lol) and our TV viewership will increase exponentially. Only a boring demographic of upper-middle class white guys care about VFL in Sydney; most people talk about the world game. Unlike VFL football is a game that actually makes sense and is played in other countries lol, even VFL youngsters are all playing FIFA with their mates. Give it time, as much as you resent us soccer wops will always be here.

Perhaps you could explain why Sydney FC and Soccer appears to be so unloved in Sydney? Unbeaten in last 19 games and top of the table, Sydney FC could only attract a crowd of 8,380 last night. :(/

Where are all these soccer fans you talk of? Just talking about the game rather than attending eh?

Lol Sydney FC are still averaging around 16k per game this season while at the same time you VFL jabronis talk up GWS which averaged just 12,333 last season. As was mentioned before we do this on a pittance of a marketing budget compared to what VFL spend in NSW. Your hate is most welcome.

You also have to acknowledge that gws is a team placed into an area which had bugger all interest in AFL hence the need to expand there. Interest still remains low, one reason, apart from being a new frontier, is the decision to not have a definitive area to attach itself to, but it does s making some in roads. Soccer has and will remain a dominant sport in that area.
