THE high-flying GWS Giants are still struggling to draw interest from casual sports fans in Sydney. Last Saturday the Manly v Eastwood Shute Shield game on 7Two out-rated the GWS v Geelong AFL game on 7mate. The AFL game was also broadcast on Fox Footy, but it’s still not a great look.

Since when is 40k + a share of the 321k watching on FoxFooty less than 38k for the Shute Shield? My god, son. :^o
Sat TV #AFL Arvo Seven 306k (Mel 205k Ade 54k Per 48k) 7mate 65k (Syd 40k Bri 26k)

I don't avoid anything ..I'm not a fumble fan .
As I've posted news ltd ..so yes more than likely wrong .

All up 40 k plus usual STV ratings are 1/3 of FTA
So about 53 k

Lol just lol

The shute shield is far more entertaining than a game of AFL even though it is only semi professional.

The shute shield is only a feeder comp. Hardly a real comparison. Is like putting the VFL up against the Super Rugby 18s, so nothing really to crow about mate.
But I will always will watch shute shield over a game of AFL. At least they don't award points for missing goals. :thumbleft:

How bout you or Parra prove that point. I take it you both (unlike the rest of us) have access to the capital city tv ratings breakdowns for FTA and STV right? Well we await your tv ratings breakdowns. This should be good :^o
well its hard to prove..
but GWS FTA ratings a very average indeed.

the Wanderers (which I hate with a passion)
have not been given that FTA on tv and seem to be going very well
with exposure / interest etc etc

Same in Vic the VFL get more viewers than the Storm - but having people tune in to watch FOR FREE really doesn't show popularity - might be re-runs of Gilligan's Island or Telle tubbies on - but people shelling out their hard earned and actually going to a match is a far greater indicator of support - it is direct, can be quantified and is not disputable. When RL people have something, anything that is more than just tv ratings??

Now that is a proper derby, not your invented AFL one.
Carlton and Richmond will play in front of 80,000 at the MCG in round 1. Technically the Giants-Swans Rivalry is older than the Wanderers-Sydney derby (Giants first AFL season - 2012 - started about 6 months before the Wanderers first season - 2012-13), fucking invented lol.
Yet it was never called a derby before the Wanderers came in,
The AFL have been using the word 'derby' for well over a decade........https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Derby

yeah because Derby has never been used to describe a game or rivalry ever.
Yeah it actually comes from RL too in regards football codes, haha, all codes around the world use it these days, but it was first given the title to Rugby League clubs Wigan and St Helens from the Earl of Derby

Um in case you haven't noticed . Ratings vary depending on what you read .
Will check if they're different on other sites
Dunno where HS got them from .
But they're still absolute shit when you are in the same ballpark as the Shute shield .

You're trying to sugar coat a shit sandwich .
It's still shit
How surprising crapper caught out lying and he starts deflecting what a hypocrite
You really don't have any idea about anything .
I didn't lie about the ratings .
I just posted a HS article .

Feel free to show where I made a claim

You guys never used it to describe the Swans Giants game before the Wanderers arrived, good to see you AFL types are so frightened of football in western sydney that you nck our terminology.
And your lot stole it from Rugby League just like the lot in the Premier League who stole the name the Red Devils from the local Rugby League side from Salford who were given the name by the French in the 1930's :^o  :D

Might have to buy you a beer and argue about that, I do know that there was a football game in 1914 that was termed a local derby in the UK, not sure earlier than that, but I think we can ignore the French and conclude it is a very English term :) so One of us would have used it first.

I didn't know that about the Red Devils, but as a Tottenham fan I couldn't care less LOL

Rugby League games between Wigan and St Helens, the real and historic true Local Derby given name by the man himself.
