Why is it when someone offers an opinion it's suddenly a melt down??? Yet when we talk about 6000 turning up to a game in Canberra it's the cold - mate your full of excuses aren't you. Why not admit SOO "IS" now RL premier competition and the NRL club comp is really just a side show and something even RL can take or leave, it really is now irrelevant. There's no harm in admitting that just as there is no harm in admitting that rep footy means nothing to an AFL fan and Club footy is the pinnacle of our sport!

Maybe because it was quite cold?

I mean, it's always got cold in Canberra, yet I see no reason the Raiders can not be shown at home with channel 9 on Sunday afternoon footy.

Why don't the Raiders play all their home games in the afternoon when in the depths of Winter?

Parra, I wonder if the NRL could try for the same sort of deal that the AFL has that gives local teams guaranteed live broadcasts into their home areas, and how much of an impact that might have on their rights. For instance, the Storm would get their games in Melbourne. Canberra would get theirs in the ACT, Nth Queensland theirs in Townsville.
what and less people turn up to the NRLOL games :(/

I think they are looking into it, they need too. I can remember when the Raiders had no problem being 9's lovechild shown each week on FTA over years, 9 are liars.

The Crowd was bad, no doubt about it, but sometimes the weather is a legitimate excuse. The Cronulla game earlier this year for one, the game on Friday is another. You'd be mad to take your family out and risk your health for a fucking football game. And no melbourne does not have that kind of cold.
No question, but 6000k on a Friday night is very bad - personally I don't think anyone said anything about the Cronulla game - but if I remember correctly the same people on here defending the crowd because of the cold were ridiculing the AFL game in Alice Springs and comparing that game to an NRL trial match in Bathurst - seems when the shoes on the other foot! Perhaps the real problem is fixturing and ground construction - an indoor multi purpose stadium during daylight may be the answer!

Ps Wookie yes Melb at times does have that cold - living in the Eastern suburbs at the foothills of the Dandenongs I went to a Vermont game that had a crowd of 2000 yesterday - 7 deg raining and windy with no shelter!

Melbourne not so much, but Geelong with the winds off bass straight and Tasmania do.

But the chill in Canberra is something the locals would be use to its not a once off freak event.

Melbourne does NOT have that chill factor, nor did it get down to -0.5 which canberra was reported to have done on Friday night. Take it up with the weather bureau. 7 degrees with rain and some wind is nothing - especially when various weather agencies put the temperature between 10 and 13 degrees for yesterday btw.
I don't know about what the weather bureau might say - but unless you live here I wouldn't be so certain of how cold things can get. It was raining yesterday and I had to stand out in it while coaching (shelter only big enough for the players and it was friggin cold - it did not stop raining and I was drenched the same as the parents who turned up! Melb does get cold but that's not the point - this is meant to big professional sport with passionate supporters and followers - they choose to put this game on at this time - their fans presumable live there and are accustomed to the cold. presumably they rug up, lastly their side by all accounts is doing ok - so answer this why on a Sunday arvo are they lucky to get 10k??? The cold is a minor factor the real point is that this club has a very small group of passionate supporters that make it look like a joke!!! It gets cold in Tassy too but the games they have had this year in twilight have still been better supported then Canberrians support the Raiders. But by all means keep making excuses for the RL crowd!
