Your talking shit lol... a million a year is not pennies. And very few AFL or A league soccer players earned that kind of money either.

Also how would you know what Raider dave does or has? If your fresh out of Uni your probably a part time casual on minimum wage lol.. =D> =D> =D>

Just because you went to uni, it does not mean your going to be well off man.

Alessandro Del Piero is joining Sydney FC in a two-year deal worth a reported $2m per season.

The 37-year-old former Juventus and Italy forward is understood to have turned down offers from Liverpool and Southampton, as well as clubs in the Middle East, China, Argentina, the United States and Switzerland to move to Australia's A-League.

"For the next two years I suppose I can say that I'll be Australian," Del Piero said on Wednesday. "I'm starting a splendid and fantastic adventure. I couldn't have chosen a better situation or a better place.

"We touched all the continents. This choice is far away in terms of kilometres but it's very close in terms of philosophy. … I can't wait to go and discover a country that everyone describes to me as fantastic."

Del Piero will become the highest-paid athlete in Australia's four football codes, including rugby league, rugby union and Australian Rules. But he insisted he is moving to Sydney to win things.

"I'm not going there for a vacation," he said. "I'm going there with total dedication."

The A-League, which has had several teams fold in the last two years due to financial problems and dwindling attendance, needs Del Piero as a draw card.

He was a member of Italy's 2006 World Cup-winning team and scored a club record 286 goals in all competitions over 19 seasons with Juventus, although he managed just five last season and only two in Serie A as the Turin club won its first Italian league title since before the 2006 match-fixing scandal.

"We're honoured to have Alessandro sign for Sydney FC," said the Australian club's chief executive Tony Pignata. "It's a momentous occasion."

Sydney's chairman Scott Barlow added: "This is for all Australian football fans. Alessandro Del Piero is a global icon of the game."

The A-League's other marquee signings have included Dwight Yorke, who also played for Sydney in 2005-06, and Robbie Fowler, who played with the now-defunct North Queensland team and Perth Glory from 2009-11.

2m after tax, 4m net per season

Looks like both of ya need some nappies  in other words, SFC were able to fork out over half the amount generated by football operations at the raiders on one player. Feels good baby!

the NRL tarrrds don't know anything about tax as they have they don't need to pay tax on the disabled pension, they just earn it for being naturally stupid!

An AFL player would never make NRL in the first place, would drop the ball too much, miss conversions thinking he can still get a point and never be able to tackle properly.

AFL players just don't have the physical tougness required in NRL. They all know this too, which is why they never try to play it. :_<>

Things that wow the sporting world (AFL)
there is unlimited interchange (almost)
you kick it out, the umpire throws it back to you
you tackle below the hips (its a free kick)
you miss a shot a goal they give u a point for trying. :(/

which everyone new, but I thought I would bring it up for some comedy

(I would love to see Buddy the HERO of the AFL try his luck in League, would be a great watch)
or any other star in the AFL

Yeah is soft as butter their game mate. Still amuses me to no end when they try to promote AFL as a tough game.

Would love to see some of these AFL fairies try to stop a James Graham or George Burgess running towards them lol.

And they call AFL a game of skill when you get points for miss kicks and drop the ball constantly.

lol its unbelievable how many times they drop the ball.. sometimes players will knock on like 5 times in a row.
and then kick it out, But that's ok, they get a second chance as the umpire throws it back to them LOL
