You seem to forget or don't know would be my bet, the Kangaroos historically (that word again) when playing in Sydney for 70 years at the SCG set all sorts of crowd records. Then Australia started moving away from everyone else in every facit of the game in regards professionalism and everything that goes with it. The other National teams started to go to junk, it all happened around the mid 70's threw to the mid to late 80's.
During this time, there was the odd upset here and there, but Australia did go 16 test matches undefeated and not taking into account the Emus games against the club sides they played while on these tours over the 3 or 4 years. That record is up there with the Test Cricket side.
Over the last 15 years, the International game has seen some tremendous games played that imo and in many others it seems after reading their thoughts at different places that a hellava lot of these games were much much better than anything SOO put up. Yet all these great games were played when it was a series, none of the 1 off test matches since it was reintroduced have been much chop, the kiwis always need a few games to really get into it and have proved this over the last decade by winning a tri nations, a 4 nations and a RLWC, the first time in near 30 years Australia (back in 2005) had lost a series (last one was in France of all places in 1977).
What I'm saying is, it's going to have to take the other nations stepping up on a consistent basis to get the Sydneysiders along to the games again. It's a pity, cause I would've loved to have been around back in days when Australia would play France GB and NZ in Sydney in front of record crowds.
I read a book not that long ago called "champagne rugby" it was about the great French teams that toured Australia in 1951-55 and 60. In one of the chapters, it mentioned the crowds that followed the French team everywhere they went, the night before the first test in Sydney 1951 (First time France had been in Australia) the team where having a feed and a drink at one of the local pubs that was just up the road from the SCG where they were staying. After they called closing time, the hundreds in the pub left and the french team was the last of the ppl there. A couple of the players decided to go for a walk and have a smoke, when they got outside the pub, they looked towards the SCG and all they could see was something like thousands of fire flies buzzing around in the SCG. One of the French players asked a local who was walking past what those strange lights were that were coming from the SCG, the man turned to the French guys and said, that's the people getting in early for the big match tomorrow, they're all just having a smoke. There was already over 10,000 in the SCG the night before the First test.
Doesn't help when NZ have a coach that seems to have no clue whasoever.
So what your telling me is international RL is effectively insignificant in Syndey, RL's largest heartland city. In fact its way less significant than a domestic Aussie Rules competition in Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne
Insignificant ?

>
:_<> :_<>
When 600, 000 of them watch a sporting event Id say not
No
Insignificant would be a sport that can only attract 50, 000
Eg
The fumbles & bumbles

10 times what the NRL rated In Melbourne on Sunday
So what's YOUR prediction Dave? 50k for the RL international? 40k? Surely a match like this couldnt attract a smaller crowd
My prediction is the test will b the most watched game in the nation this weekend
Why
Are u betting it wont ?
Are u prepared to put your moderators role on the line
You have a big mouth
But tiny nuts like most fumblers
What say you fumbler ?

Funnily enough, this thread is about a comparison of crowds

> why would you be avoiding the topic? If you don't want to discuss the expected crowds why post in this thread?
Will the RL test b the most watched game in Oz this weekend or not ?
Easy question
Yes or no
back your big trap up for once
Or are you a chicken shit who knows it will b
Gee
This thread has just been consigned to the dust bin eh ?

Why are you avoiding xman's question???? Why do you keep going on about TV ratings and not crowds - not trying to deflect are you - so answer the question how big will the crowd be???
why is he avoiding mine ?
maybe you can answer it seeing as he runs away everytime I ask it
will this be the most watched game of football in any code in Australia this weekend
If it is
how could it be insignificant ?

>
If its watched by more aussies then every VFL BWOCKBUSTER played throughout the year ..... then are these bumbling abortions .............. less then insignificant
discuss ?

Probably because I created the thread and it isnt about TV ratings, its about whether the RL international will draw a bigger crowd than the Majority of AFL games this weekend.
Why the deflection Dave?

Don't you get it, Sydney doesn't deserve any International RL until the fans start turning up again, the reason this game has sold out over the last 8 years is simply because it was not held in Sydney.
The fans will turn up at the right venue. Allianz is not the right venue. ANZ is. It should also be promoted heavily.

It very much depends on the weather, and how heavily it is promoted in Sydney. That I wouldn't know. If both fall in favour of the game, then yes it should draw about 40,000.

Well IMO they will be roughly the same tv wise - unless there is more than 100k in overall viewers I will call it a draw. As for crowds well AFL hands down at least 30k more!

why does it need promotion
its the NRL in its own heartland.
the Aussies world number one side playing the 2nd ranked side. how the bum sniffers build their code up, it should be a sell out at ANZ stadium

meh
Origin has replaced tests as our marquee events outside of our domestic comp &..... it WILL sellout ANZ .. & Suncorp .. & Etihad .. & anywhere else it is played
we'll leave our sellouts at Internationals to World Cups... wow that 75,000 at Old Trafford looked good eh
meanwhile
the fumbles & feebles is stuck with just a domestic comp & nothing else &
even its retracting & declining
wow
how fucking boring
wouldn't they love to have a wonderfully multi faceted & multi levelled sport like we have
SOO
NRL
International
City V Country
9's
All Stars

but..but..but..but..but.
failure dave they are the top 2 RL sides in the worlds. aussies vs the kiwis.
could only muster 24k, even still being the only rl game on this weekend
maybe every one else thinks the RL is boring as fuck except you

, the AFL got 3 times that amount on a cold shitty nite in Melbourne, between 2 suburban teams for a normal A&H round
NRL is nothing more than a glorified amateur shit show

It needs promotion because of the bad habit Sydney NRL fans have of staying home and watching the game on television. I have heard this morning that the ratings for the Test were excellent, but no actual numbers were revealed. It also needs promotion in order to overcome the general apathy (rightfully) for Allianz Stadium.
I am going to assume that the promotion wasn't up to the task, given that the crowd was only 25,000. It actually looked about 30,000 on television but I can accept I was incorrect in that estimation.
