Group 9 is the name for the Riverina based rugby league competition in which Albury fields a team. It's been around since 1923 and is quite a strong competition. Albury have won the last two premierships there, and I was at last year's game with Albury beating Gundagai 30-20 in a good game.

Well I can confirm that Echuca likes thugby league. There was one pub that I saw when I visited there a few years ago that was decked out in NSW State of Origin gear. I said straight away to my other half "we're not going there for lunch!"
lol a man with standards :thumbleft:
mate, it doesn't mean that the whole town likes League, last year while i was working up on Curtis island in Gladstone Central QLD, my better half flew in for the week i had off. we went to a restaurant one evening for dinner, it was a few days before the AFL grand final, & the place was decked out with fremantle dockers stuff. after chatting to the staff for a while i had the opportunity to speak to the owner, he was an expat from WA that liked the area & opened up a restaurant. because there is 1 place on town that is decked out with a teams merchandise it doesn't mean the whole place is like that
I was in Echuca in February, Adam. Not during the season. That changes the field quite a lot I think. Contrary to your example which was at the time of the grand final. Mind you it would have got a little support given that Gladstone does have two Aussie Rules footy clubs (the Mudcrabs and Boyne Island/Tannum Sands).

I suppose if your not familiar with it just like RL people wouldn't know about the Ovens and Murray FL you'd ask what that was.

Well I actually consider both groups to be in the Riverina because Group 9's headquarters is in Wagga. But perhaps I'm being pedantic.

Swans4ever, I happen to know about both codes in Albury. The Border Mail's coverage is slanted towards the Ovens and Murray FL and the others in the region so it's hard to miss if you are a regular reader of the sports section, and it's understandable when you consider it's distribution area extends further into Victoria than it does into New South Wales. The local TV news however presents both evenly when I last lived there before moving to Alice Springs in 2006.

Not suggesting there isn't a presence - just that AFL would be more prominent that's all!

Well you did insinuate that no one who is a rugby league person would not know about Aussie Rules, and vice versa. I was simply clarifying the actual state of affairs to avoid any confusion.

Dave, read the whole sentence you snipped that from and you'll see (maybe) that Albury/Wodonga WASN'T AMONGST THE LIST!! Swans was talking about all the others Cracker named!!

What on earth is happening here? Swines peeing his panties?

Swines settle down a few notches and if you're having trouble with dave get rid of those soft aesthetically displeasing exclamation marks and hurl some French his way.

Jesus, this is the fight club you know.

Why should he? If he chooses to fight a different way that should be up to him.
