Well for a start, Parra ended up with over 17k members last year which put them in the top half of memberships.

Parra even though coming last also managed to finish way above most other NRL and AFL clubs in TV ratings, that's two.

And for number three, Parra in their second in a row wooden spoon year still managed to have a higher attendance than both GWS and WSW and if the truth was posted about GWS crowds, Parra coming stone motherless would have averaged better than both WSW and GWS combined.

Derp!

Right now today Today(as in 2013-2014) I would say GWS are comfortably are Australia's worst sporting franchises. There seriously cannot be any other contenders.

Let's see some of the main issues GWS have;
- not winning games, and not just afew but every game bar 1 or 2 the whole season.
- the club is hemorrhaging the bank balance
- the club has minuscule community and media interest.
- the club has a major identity crisis. GWS moved from here, then there and now basically anywhere (as evident by choosing to play 'home' games in ACT).
- the club only exists because of the present and future potential broadcast dollars.
-GWS are causing rifts in the AFL world. (Explain below)

GWS get an unfair advantage over the other clubs. GWS get more money off the AFL, can offer better player salaries but the big one is the unfair draft pick selections
Before GWS and co, Clubs that are struggling benefit from the AFL draft giving them the best draft options. Clubs struggle largely because the club is not as financially stable as the best and so they cannot afford to buy the best players and coaches etc. having top draft pics at their clubs is beneficial two ways. the struggling clubs get to potentially strengthen their roster, but also it gives these clubs a kind of future revenue nest egg. Hey can keep or sell these players to other clubs for financial gain. The last few seasons teams like the demons have lost these draft privileges and I think it will be afew years down the track until the full negative imapact both financially and competativly GWS has caused to these clubs.

The AFL tells everyone GWS is a 20 or 30 year plan. Without doubt GWS would not be meeting the expectations the AFL had for the club during its formation.
Evidence the AFL were optimistic is the fact there has been a cost blow outs and having a 'modest'(according to the AFL) home crowd average of 17,000 in season 1, plus abandoning blacktown because the stadiums capacity of 10,000 was too small, en building a stadium around the fact the crowds need to be above 15,000 to break even.
AFL are not concerned (and nor would I be if I was thinking the same as they are) about these increases in costs because the AFL are looking at the bigger picture. this so called The 'Aussies rules Push into Sydney's west' & the creation of GWS will benefit the AFL in its future tv broadcast deals. The AFL believes a team in western sydney because it is Australia's 3rd largest economy after sydney and Melbourne, and has a population similar to WA and will give them a lot more bartering powers during future TV deals. It potentially could, but GWS could also potentially weaken the AFL's cause too. With the giants woeful onfield performances, dismal tv audience for their games (the swans are also not the best too), how can the AFL expect during the next tv broadcast negotiations to bluff their way out of those facts and try to convince the tv channels that the AFL deserves more money because with these new francheises like GWS in the new AFL markets, the game is going to grow in the future. The AFL can try showing their 'participation figures' but most people have caught on to how much of a crock those figures are. I see it more like GWS will damage and weaken the value of the AFL in the next tv deal then strengthen it.

Of course I'm bound to get so e of the AFL fans in here jump to GWS's side and say what do you expect from a club that's only 2 (really three) years old, yadda yadda it's a 30 year plan yadda yadda.... Lo
Well for those who were about to reply basically what I wrote just above, here's my reply to you, look how much this club has fucked up in only 2 years! I can't imagine the distruction they will cause to the game of AFL if the farce is aloud to roll on for another 30 yrs...

With that trip you showed how little you understand about AFL. I can't remember any club that has come in and been an instant success story. Gold Coast's first season was as bad as GWS's, and yet now they are a chance to make the finals. West Coast, Adelaide, Fremantle and Port Adelaide started better, but that was because they are in AFL states. Sydney struggled early on even with the base of South Melbourne, but look at them now 30 years later! It's called quality development, and the talent GWS have will bear fruit bringing with it better competition and higher crowd numbers. Bringing clubs in expecting instant success is an exercise in futility. The Storm only bucked the trend because they were able to fill a small market and they chucked in extra money (which as we know they paid the price for) to make sure they got the best players to make sure it worked first time. What a joke!

Here's a fun fact. Parramatta's crowd averages are in the bottom half of the competition for the H&A season overall - and BEHIND GWS. Home crowds only they are in the bottom five - and yes GWS are below them there, but it won't stay that way.

I maintain it upon a previous correction. The worst sporting franchise in Australia is the Western Force/Farce.

Why does this **** keep going on about H & A crowds?
Home crowds are evidence of support in your area,& I suspect because GWS/Canberra/Prague/The Moon wandering Giants Home crowds are so bad that this Imba is not quoting them.

so the eels founded way back in 1947 vs the giants founded in 2011 are only slight more popular than in NRL heart land
the giants who a team of inexperienced teenagers who gets thumped each week, a team buy the majority of the AFL coaches who voted that the giants will be a top team in a the next 3 or 4 years are only just behind the eels. :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/

The eels will still be in front of that rabble even if they win another 4 spoons in a row.

(for goodness sake, please don't win 6 spoons in a row again)

It's a wonder the club has any support going on these stats.
