international representation in ****** league terms, is an Australian side playing against a side full of B grade Australian NRL players picked to play for another country, because they once holidayed there :(/
RL is far from being international, its nothing more than a chest beating exercise, like they attempt to claim in being the most popular sport in Australia but are about to be over taken buy the A league as number 2 :(/

the Game was built up buy Paker & murdoch's (news Ltd), in the 80s & 90s. now that news ltd, finally worked out it was a dud investment, the NRL numbers continue to fall, crowds, TV ratings

Despite a record start, A-League crowds more than halved since the start of the season

Angela Habashy AAP

December 2, 2013 2:22

FANS flocked to stadiums in record numbers to watch the A-League's opening round this season, but now just seven weeks later attendance figures have more than halved.

Bolstered by massive crowds in Sydney, Melbourne and Gosford, some 100,998 people attended the first round in October - the biggest figure for a regular-season round in the eight-year history of the league.

But fast forward to last weekend and round eight recorded a collective figure of just 46,047 for all five fixtures.

Teams like Wellington and Melbourne Heart normally record smaller numbers than some of the bigger clubs.

Add to that a recent run of bad form by both bottom-of-the-table clubs and that could explain why they had their lowest crowds this season last weekend.

But proving results aren't everything, defending champions Central Coast and top-placed Brisbane Roar also recorded their lowest crowds this season.

Head of the A-League Damien De Bohun however, is not concerned with the dip in numbers - which are nowhere near as bad as the lowest ever regular-season round figure of 22,729 recorded in round three of the 2006/07 season - and says the figures still show the fanbase is continually growing.

This week was down a bit but given where the games were played and also the weather and some of the performances it wasn't a massive surprise to us," he told AAP on Monday.

Both a league and nrl do have very poor crowds I must admit. Both can also draw a decent crowd from time to time too.

I think there are tinier sports but anyway. That taunt only works if people who follow AFL care if the rest of the world like AFL. I like it and enjoy it. I can watch it anywhere in this country and listen on radio anywhere... And read about it on the press. With internet I can go anywhere in the world and do this actually, so as long as I can do that and there is sufficient support for the game to keep it going, then whether it is only popular in Melbourne (as Dave often professes) or is the worlds premier sport makes little difference to me. I'm sure the Irish don't care about the popularity of hurling or garlic football, as long as their game continues. I'm happy that AFL is big enough in this country to not be in danger of dying out. Just as rl people are or should be similarly happy that they can continue to follow their nrl with their little danger of it dying out.

They lie ,lie a bit more & lie again.(seems to be a culture in AFL from the top down).Vald has just been exposed as lying trough his teeth.
This leads to the Question of
Why do they need to lie .
If their sport is so big so popular,& will get new fans wherever it is played ,then why lie.

My answer would be the sport is nowhere near as popular OS as made out..
& nowhere near as big in NSW & QLD as made out.

I would agree that AFL is not big overseas ... He'll it's barely small lol. I think on Sydney and Queensland I would also agree. Credit to the AFL.. They do have a significant following in both Brisbane and Sydney .. More so in Brisbane I would say than Sydney, however nrl is by far the sport of choice. The Gold Coast does however have a significant presence for AFL .. Likely started by ex pat Victorians and south Australians but there are a lot of locals also interested too.. This I know first hand as I live here and work in Brisbane. I think that those who know little of the Gold Coast think that it is more akin to AFL's presence on the Sunshine Coast .. Where I spend most weekends. Whilst there is a league there with juniors and seniors it is very tiny. Gold Coast has a massive presence in comparison. On fact I have seen the Gold Coast really get behind the suns over since they came on board. Brisbane is still very much nrl and has a dedicated but niche AFL following. Possibly akin to soccer I would say ... Having two teams up here certainly increases exposure.

buy your previous state ment, only proves is that you are an idiot
NRL are the biggest chest beating organisation that there is, constantly talking up how bug they are, biggest game in aus & how big they are internationaly & basement dwelling virgins or bogan dinosaurs, with low selfsame issues, which you and your fellow posters believe

despite the fact it has dwelling ratings & crowds & participation rates & clubs struggle for sponsors, its only source of income are pokies, the AFL owns the NRL in thing, crowds, revenue, ratings, participation, ratings.
internationally league, is not much bigger than AFL, it rides of the success of union & started in England. yet 100 plus years later, over half of the players playing in the world cup are Australian based & Australia still thumped the competition, it was a nothing more than a joke
nothing more than a wank fest for the NRL

but it did sell out etihad last year at 56,021......

"The first ever State of Origin match at the MCG (and second in Melbourne) was Game II of the 1994 series, and the attendance of 87,161 set a new record rugby league crowd in Australia. The MCG was also the venue for Game II of the 1995 State of Origin series and drew 52,994, the most of any game that series. The third game of the 1997 State of Origin series, which, due to the Super League war only featured Australian Rugby League-signed players, was played there too, but only attracted 25,105, the lowest in a series that failed to attract over 35,000 to any game."
