The AFL put 30 mil in their futures fund per year. Plus they have other investments like the suns and giants. Over and above these costs the AFL still made a 12mil profit. Theyd be well over 50m profit before these.

And the NRL? 40mil before funding their futures fund or other investments.

I don't know why your arguing with him - he will just keep coming back with the same old things - the NRL made a profit this year - 2012 they lost money! They didn't bank any then, the AFL has had a futures fund for years banking money and they will still bank 30 mil this year! So the NRL are still light years away he is just a dickhead!

to be fair to the AFL the Losses would not have been a surprise to them, with two new expansion clubs... And its good to have all this money but what are they gunna do with it, i hope its invested wisely not just banked for a rainy day!
for example I seriously hope the ARLC make a descision on expansion sooner rather than later. the time to head west is now (specially with more money into RL through tv revenue). Id also like to see the ARLC invest more in advertising too, something the AFL seem to do much better. I am not very happy with ARLC thus far... step up boys!

the AFL has invested heavely in to the Gold Coast Markets and Greaten Western Markert, pumping a lot in to grass roots levels, as well as having putting money in to a future fund. which who no doubt be used to set up other possible expansion markets, it will Own Etihad stadium in the year 2025, there is also said to be a few hundred million set aside in the Future fund already, construction of a new 60k plus stadium in perth is about to start in the near future, so i could only imagine the AFL contributing some money into it so it will have some form of say in hows things will be run at the new venue

the losses aren't great
& their Leagues clubs wind the debt back to nil for them.... each year

NRL clubs revenues are increasing & their expenditure is under control
they won't need leagues club bail outs for much longer ... they will all be self sufficient inside the next decade

same can't be said for the fumbles & bumbles
the VFL is funding clubs struggling financially all ova the shop
they may have put 30 mill in their future fund a few years back

but I'd doubt it would be 3 Million these days .....

Unlike the NRL who brag about a profit BEFORE costing any expansion projects

Suns making a profit too I think as they own the man agent rights or part thereof ... So big day out for 5 years makes them heaps and the crowd they draw also makes them a profit as low overheads .
