The highest rating sporting event was Cathy freeman 400 meters ... I don't think the 400 meters is Australia's most popular sport though ...

You do know the reason the nRL didn't want a stand alone weekend for SoO was because they knew it wouldn't rate as well, right? Play the AFL GF on a Wednesday night and watch at least 5m tune in.

But what? You can't counter the argument because we can rate outside of prime time and you CAN'T!!!

We do have to give it to the arl though ... The SoO has been marketed very well and gets great ratings and interests . There is no doubt about it. I think it is so big that they could now play it outside the nrl season and lose nothing ... And better still if they did it would address some of the issues it's impact has on the regular home and away season.

great thread. Facts are facts boyz, rl dominates the big crowd scene in sydney.
Not 1 crowd in the top 10 for marngrook! daves right, it's a downwards slope the AFL is sliding down.
I wonder though, just yo add firther perspective, how many crowds would marngrook get for the bottom 10 crowds of ffa, AFL, and nrl matches in sydney over 2013? 'Bout 7?
