State of Origin Twitter impressions boosted to over a billion by football-loving celebrities

FOOTBALL-LOVING celebrities helped the NRL generate more than a billion Twitter impressions across the State of Origin series, rivalling social media campaigns run by global giants like the U.S. Super Bowl.

You seriously believed that? A game watched by 4 million rivaled a game watched by 100 million? My God some nRL fans are fucking stupid!

They believe what they want to believe, and don't believe what they don't want to believe. These are the types of people that probably think you're not there if they cover their eyes! :(/

What I'm saying is that the Super Bowl is clearly a much bigger event and will get way more people tweeting about it as well, especially when you consider all of the big name celebrities in the USA having their say on the match. The old stereotype of rugby players/fans having an IQ of jerseys is ringing true here

Sure they are sure - thats why they have the most sponsorship, the biggest club crowds and the most members! They are the BIGGEST club In Sydney! Unless you can break down TV ratings (again they are NOT reliable) into support for a particular side or interested bystanders! Thats why NO CLUB can put an actual figure on their TV audience. That's why sponsors need other indicators as well otherwise Penrith would have started the season with a major sponsor! - thats why there are 37k Swans members and the nearest NRL club is 22k - St.George, thats 15k ahead! WoW! In RL HEARTLAND WOW! And doesn't it really, really hurt RD, oh how it burns you!

The disparity between the SOO and NRL games shows how people in qld and especially nsw like the SOO rivalry but arent really fussed about RL. Otherwise NRL would have better attendance and ratings in its own heartland.

And for a sport being played in a nation of 20 mill to get anywhere near a nation with 300 mill who all follow the one football code says something, I know you don't like it, but it's damn impressive nonetheless.

Look ParraEelsNRL - I will agree with you it is impressive - but I don't know what it means - what were they tweeting about - the game, the fat streaker, the spectical. That's the problem we can't know what it is they are saying - as well how may people tweeted multi able times - there's a lot of assumptions that can't be cleared up!

Soo is great and gets people in. But it is a marquee event so we must remember this. Lets face it, without it where would the nrl be. In fact, I think the nrl could be much better without it if they keep the current format. It does impact significantly on the comp proper. It also makes the nrl comp proper secondary .. That is comes in second to soo. I often wonder what is preferred ... A soo win or a grand final win by players? I think it is time to play soo out of season. It's big enough to not be affected.

That is not nessasarily important - no RL club would have all of its members live exclusively in there area - the same question could be said of any RL club. They would have country and interstate members in addition to members residing in other suburbs of Sydney. In a population greater than any other city in Australia - the crowds reflect a lower fan base The Swans crowds reflect attendance much closer to their membership base!

Before RD brings up FTA TV ratings - you can't claim support for a club from that as you can't gauge if they are watching to see their side or just interested sports fans - which in Sydney is more of the culture. So they can't be added with any degree of certainty of who or if they are following a particular club.
