First things first ... Lets go by official figures for both codes . Secondly 6500 or whatever is a poor crowd even for rugby leauge and the AFL would be majorly disappointed. Two many Canberra games too close together although I think they thought the suns v giants rivalry may have got a few more there. Not to be. I would think another 3000 was needed for the AFL to be okay with. Poor crowds send a poor message and you want have people coming back. I suspect however it may have been lower at skoda but that's we're they need to build support ... They need to give heaps and heaps of tickets away ... Get people to a game with a big crowd ... They will then come back in spades. The swans did it at the start now look at how well they are doing ... High crowds , high membership limited media exposure (compared to none at all 30 years ago). Yep that crowd at star trak stadium was not great.

Yes well said phelpsy. Can you believe Xman is putting this crowd in a positive light? I mean even someone with rocks in their noggin could realise it was woeful and sad.
Yes I agree, too many games too close together was their problem. Canberrans clearly arent committed to the side. It's rather, a novelty. Something 'different' to do. Even though they beat the suns at manuka last year for their first emotional win in front of Canberrans, thousands have not returned. And seriously, why would they? The setup is dodgy and blind freddy can see that if GWS ever become sustainable in sydney they'll pack their bags and never be seen again in Canberra.
My predicction? Unless they play max 2 games per season, Canberra GWS crowds to dwindle to 5k and below by end of 2014.

Agree , they should build western Sydney ... Have a Melbourne team play there a few times a year as they do with tassie. I think western bulldogs would have been a good choice with a possible relocation in years to come .

Yes the bulldogs should either be out of the league or given a lifeline with the canberrans. Though this wouldnt really get em outta the basketcase league imo.

Let's do this.
Faux Anzac long weekend, city was an even bigger ghost town than usual. Suns brought about 12 people with them, so the overwhelming majority of those in attendance were Giants fans.
It was a beautiful day, and the game was actually quite good. Last year's cripple fight was horrible to watch, but this was a close contest at times with some great running play, and Charlie Dixon was amazing.
Dave, you sound far to eager to declare the death of the Giants. Desperate even. That Saints crowd must have really rattled you. I can understand why. Fact is as the Giants become more competitive the crowds will grow. A fortnight ago showed what happens when a big name team comes to town. The Giants have a decade to grow their crowds (not that they'll need it).
I'll just leave with this. The Giants are in their second year. If you think a 6k crowd in your second year is pathetic Dave, you've obviously forgotten the crowds the Raiders were pulling when they entered the nRL.....

No, you baulked at that. It's the offseason this year (Sep-Dec).

Deal. The Giants aren't without their disadvantages:
1. Only 1 game against a local team to bring "away" fans, vs 5 for the Panthers.
2. Giants have 3 games at a 10k seat stadium in Canberra.
3. Giants are a 2 year old AFL team in League heartland, Panthers are a 47 year old League club in League heartland.
Giants will still win.
Alright drac lets do this bet but I'd like to reduce the wager because I'm scared I could lose. And how do we obtain the figures?
how about avatars just 'till the end of the year (so Sept 1- Dec 31). We'll go by official crowd figures, as that's all we can go by. There looked to be well under 10k people at Penriff on the weekend, but the official figure is 10,882, so i'll accept it.

Nah, the 6k figure has made it unlikely. Would need a crowd of 12k against the bulldogs.
