This is an article from a few days ago that talks about AFL recruiting in NSW/Qld and talks about private schools.
Although the private school system in the northern states was once the sacred domain of rugby union, the AFL now expects the number of players to come out of it to double in the next few years. .
With more sporting opportunities for kids opening up in NSW, rl will no longer have the best talent playing their sport from a young age. It's already happening in the bush with soccer and Australian Football growing and league clubs dying, it's only a matter of time before we're seeing the same effects on suburban rl comps in Sydney. In 10 years over 50% of players in the nRL will probably come from overseas backgrounds such as Fijian or Polynesian. But if Australian Football starts making huge inroads in those areas which they are beginning to do, rl's talent pool will just continue to shrink and the quality of the sport will just keep getting worse.Raiderdave wrote:Like we saidpiesman2011 wrote:http://www.heraldsun.com.au/AFL/more-ne ... 6514320408

Football participation grew in NSW actually. With the AusKick age up to 12 these days, this will affect club numbers for kids 12 and under. Increased school football participation has also had an affect on club numbers. Once the AusKick kids are older than 12 they will likely go on to playing school or club football. This will happen within the next 5 years, as AusKick started to seriously grow in NSW about 3 years ago so we are yet to see the full effect that this will have on participation in clubs.Raiderdave wrote:ah .. so says the king of deluded foolsStewie wrote:With more sporting opportunities for kids opening up in NSW, rl will no longer have the best talent playing their sport from a young age. Vicky Kicky is dead in Sydney .... or have you not read the VFL's own report into the state of its game in NSW ?
it had no growth at all in club registrations in Sydney in 2012
while RL participation grew by 7% ..
it seems kids in Sydney have tried the fumbling & bumbling ..... & hate it , so are longer taking it up ... or continuing to play it if they did start.
ask Izzy .... he said as much
get me away from this garbage
if they're soft shirt lifters & their mummies won't let them play RL with the rough boys .... they'll play soccer like they have for the last 40 years
not giggleball
& soccers popularity player numbers wise ... has never affected RL being the dominate code in the Nthn states .... & it never will.
nup
after 30 years & despite RL having very little money to defend itself .... the VFL has made almost .. NO .. gains into RL's numb 1 status north of the murray , as VFL is a poor product & despite all the money they've thrown at kids in NSW ...it hasn't worked.. as I keep saying you can't polish a turd.![]()
& now RL has a billion plus to spend on maintaining its Numb 1 position in the Nthn States ..... it will not only NEVER relinquish it
it will pull even further away.
So theirs a link between financial prosperity and athletic ability is there?Raiderdave wrote:Like we saidpiesman2011 wrote:http://www.heraldsun.com.au/AFL/more-ne ... 6514320408
