I think Izzy's stint in the AFL has been a win for all parties.
AFL: GWS' brand recognition went from less than zero to every single person in Sydney knowing who they are. Helped put the team on the map, gave them a kickstart they never would have had without him. GWS will also get a mention every time Izzy makes the headlines in Sydney from this point on, for free. GWS lose the face of their club, but have an extra $1.5 million a year freed up for marketing, and $300k free in their cap. Could be the difference between getting Tippett and not getting Tippett.
Izzy: Pockets $2m for 2 years, is now nationally known, and got to meet Dermot Breraton.
NRL: Get to feel like they've had a big win over big brother, can use Izzy's return as a marketing tool.
Everybody wins.

In what way? The AFL got the publicity it required when they started the giants. That was the very purpose of the signing.Striker wrote:And it's the truth as well!

Re: Rnd 1 VFL in Sydney & no
And they are now getting negative publicity, and the NRL media will lap that up and take advantage of it!

Re: Rnd 1 VFL in Sydney & no
Good on Izzy for quitting 2 years into his 4 year contract. He could have stayed and he could have kept taking the money. However he realised that he was never going to be good enough to make the grade of being even an average player and he had to much pride not to be an elite player in a sport. Although his return to RL will mean he is earning less then half of his current wage he will again be one of the best 20 players in Australian Rugby league.
Re: Rnd 1 VFL in Sydney & no
really? in what way? They allowed him to exit his contract and said good luck.Striker wrote:And they are now getting negative publicity, and the NRL media will lap that up and take advantage of it!
Do the nRL do a song and dance every time someone returns to RL from RU? How desperate

Re: Rnd 1 VFL in Sydney & no
Have you forgotten the bru-ha-ha GWS and the AFL made when they recruited Izzy? It went well beyond anything else you care to name! Now look at the red faces! Izzy's back where he belongs and the Sydney media will lap it up! Suck $hit, AFL! You FAILED!!
