Having two rival teams is an ideal arrangment. As the saying goes "Twos company, threes a crowd". If there was a third strong state the rivalry wouldn't work near as well. If the third state was week they would either have to be excluded or the result would be some very uninteresting matches, devaluing the product.
So SOO is strong primarily because the nRL is weak
But RL has expanded better than your mob haven't they? :D
Not in Australia no.

Exactly
A perfect example is the Australian open men's final.
Pre 2004 it was scheduled on Sunday afternoon. During this time it never made the top 20 list of most watched shows for the year.
In 2005 it was changed to Sunday evening prime time and was the number 1 rated show for the year. Hewitt played of course which helped.
2006 it was number 4
2007 it was number 3
2008 it was number 4
Etc etc
So prime time makes a massive difference to ratings. If the AFL GF was shown in prime time it would be the number one rating show by a mile every single year.
But but but but but
You remember that huh?
Good. That's the standard answer you give when you've haven't got a rebuttal.

This threads about total audience TLPG. You know, the thing that matters more than crowds at the event? Now shut up!
Actually no you're amusing me, keep going for a little while...carry on.

You're only avoiding it because I know that there have NEVER been any SOO crowds over 90,000. And yet the AFL/VFL has had nine games in the home and away season break the 90,000 barrier!!
And I haven't even started on the finals!

Typical of the Aussie Rules set. This thread was all about viewers and they try and turn it into attendance. I think all the post relating to attendances as a comparison only go to show that when the Aussie Rules mob lose they resort to attendances which we all know is their fallback argument. You have to pity them.

One viewing doesn't make an argument, Mark. Anyway, attendance is more important than TV ratings because crowds are what ultimately pay the bills.

The funny part is they actually think they can get close to 4million watching for thier grand final lol Dream on guys. They will try and shift the conversation to crowds as usuall, its okay 4million viewers for 1 game of SOO is going to be the norm in the coming years get use to it.

You're a dope!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Au ... s_for_2005 2005's GF was easily over 4m? In fact it's the only show in the top 20 that was not in primetime. =D>
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Au ... s_for_2006 2006 would also be over 4m.
