Victorians sure are keen. The Victorian Sports Minister thinks the game is between Queensland and New Zealand.

Origin I will be played in Melbourne tonight. But not in Melbourne's hearts, minds or - judging by the sparse media coverage and lack of public enthusiasm - even its subconscious.
The lead-up to what the Victorian Sports Minister, Hugh Delahunty, described as a ''State of the Origin'' match between ''Queensland and New Zealand'' has been so low-key there will be no pre-match entertainment. Instead, Delta Goodrem will sing.

However, a significant reason for the lacklustre atmosphere surrounding Origin I is that Melbourne is now utterly dominated by the AFL, a merciless 24/7 media-driven obsession that leaves little room for anything else. Particularly in the middle of the season. Particularly with an Essendon ruckman suffering an ingrown toenail or the Hawthorn coach buying a new lawnmower. Not totally far-fetched examples of the minutiae examined with po-faced intensity by an ever-growing band of AFL reporters and commentators.

I underlined and made bold the part that i thought was interesting.
So in that statement it eludes to the fact that AFL fans are stuck in there box in Victoria. I mean they report on toe nails and what lawnmower you buy yukk... Talk about hipenotised by the AFL.
I have a question, what colour is Mr demetriuos lounge room couch?
If im not happy with your answer im going to make a complaint to AFL HQ about not recieving my AFL experience..

Classic attempt at spelling hypnotized there!

The article appeared in a Brisbane newspaper. I think the comment you underlined is an attempt at humour with a hint of dummy spit.

Yes I confess, I watched 15 mins of SoO at Etihad Stadium. From that however, I thought there was no atmosphere whatsoever for what is constantly promoted as the pinnacle of RL. Mate vs Mate, State vs State.

Funny how the bit I caught on tv was the commentators saying most of the crowd was from intersate. Clearly Victorians couldn't give a rats about RL. Look at the Melbourne Storm's crowds for further proof.
