Games just about to start and I am settling down with a beer and about to watch another NRL spectacular, the type that the AFL can only "dream" about. Should be a good game and a fitting way to recognize the contribution of our indigenous players.
What's the crowds? 70, 80k? :P

Our Natives in the AFL are doing more important things than playing in token games such as the NRL does so useless politicians can go along and pretend they are supporting Native players and the Native cimmunity.

Well what a superb match to bring in the RL season. Closely fought with much passion, aggression and good spirit. Looks like this season's gunna be an absolute ripper, with several great matchups having me frothing at the mouth for round one.

All in all a great turnout for this game too, i think all but 400 seats sold and the majority of the crowd looked to be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The concept was developed by Preston Campbell and you can see the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people really engage with and own the event.

While I like the aussie rules version as well, and it is spectacular, I dont recall this event getting the same turnout of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in support. I guess this is because its a club game. What do others think?

I suppose I prefer a blockbuster with two fierce rivals playing for premiership points in front of 60-85k. There sure seems like a decent indigenous turnout amongst that size crowd.

But that's just me.

wow

It truly was .. wasn't it E
spectacular tries ... bone jarring defence ... a few dust ups

skill all ova the joint , some of th handling was gob smacking for players who haven't played in 5 months
as Wayne Bennett said .... I was amazed.

...it was really appriciated by the big crowd that turned up ( 80% aboringinal I'd say )
... Dugan was great
Gallen superb ... & I thought Thurston & Bird were the pick for the Indigenous side

as for your 2nd question

the AFL's token gesture to our indigenous people is a pale imitation
not one person attending it because of its patronising " theme " ... its no more an indigenous celebration then any other club game in the AFL

so in reality .... they do nothing like the NRL does for our indigenous community ... nothing like this wonderful event that has been completely embraced by not only indgienous fans from NSW & QLD .. but all ova Australia

they need to pick up their act & learn from the NRL
nothing half hearted from the NRL as we can all see
unlike the AFL's pathetic gesture.. [-X [-X [-( [-(

It isn't an imitation, it's a different thing all together. The AFL have an indigenous v AFL side game already.

80k to our dreamtime game, what was the crowd last night again?

We started the concept. Again you lot copy.
An AFL spokesman said there was no chance of organising another Indigenous All Stars fixture this year, but the league remained firmly committed to what had been a biennial event since 2003.

"We'll certainly look to schedule more Indigenous All Star games in the Northern Territory but we won't be able to play one this year," he said.

nothing would be the answer ?

bit like the AFL fullstop really. [-X [-X [-X [-( [-( [-(

That's right Beaussie. The AFL have an annual blockbuster attracting a huge crowd with a full afternoon and evening of events to pay tribute to the indigenous players of our game. They also have an indigenous v AFL club game every second year, plus many many programs as posted in another thread.

As usual the AFL are leading the way and the NRL are trying to catch up.

With a crowd of stuff all in a game that means nothing.

Perfected or perfectly bland as is typical of the nRL?
