The AFL have made their ANZAC day into a phenomenal success by celebrating the ANZACs and playing a match between two of the most popular teams in the league. They have incorporated this into a blockbuster event with a fantastic tradition that is the envy of Australian sport for a regular scheduled game.
Just playing a game on ANZAC day means nothing if it's not made into a true event.
The NRL version was pathetic, and included little crowd support or tradition. They have clearly noticed what the AFL have made their day in to and reintroduced the concept.
This is exactly what Beaussie said.
It was clearly not a major event if it deteriorated to the point where it was abandoned. It is not on the scale of the AFLs day, which the NRL are now trying to copy.ParraEelsNRL wrote:Xman wrote:Not so fast.

Read the articles you flog, they had sellout crowds at the grounds it was played at and played it at the SCG and the old Sports ground to show their respect.
Dumbarse.
They had some pathetic crowds. They changed venues. They had up. To 3 games playing on ANZAC day. This was not a blockbuster event with an entire service to remember the ANZACs with! It was just a scheduled fixture that was played on ANZAC day.The following year (1978) saw the SCG host three matches on the Sunday, with the remaining three games played on the ANZAC Day Tuesday. One of those clashes was between Easts and St George, and the two clubs met again in 1979 in a stand-alone mid-week ANZAC Day clash at the SCG.
The tradition of ANZAC Day matches at one or both of Sydney's Moore Park grounds was first broken in favour of suburban venues in 1975-76, and then from 1981-83. In 1984 an Easts home game against Wests saw a return to the Sports Ground, but less than 5,000 fans attended.

The two aren't even close!
STFU.On that first holiday Monday in 1926, a full race meeting was held at Rosehill, and first grade rugby league games were played in the city at the SCG (Easts v Balmain, 20,000 attendance)

You didn't even know RL played games as far back as then and now you're all ******* experts in a 12 hour period!
Fark off.
And the original question had nothing to do with any of this anyway, so the point is moot and I won again.
Farking sly shirtlifters
Look at beaussies claim. The warriors v storm game is planned as a traditional fixture on ANZAC day, exactly like the AFL have been doing with the Coll v Ess game for 17 years.Xman wrote:BS file#4: How did that Melbourne Storm game come about? Oh that's right, trying to cash in on the ANZAC tradition in the AFL. Do you lot ever come up with anything original?

This BS file will be a waste of time if they continue making the rules up for themselves as they go along.Raiderdave wrote:phhhhtttt................... says whoXman wrote:Not so fast.
