Western Suburbs actually had trouble at one point competing with the Campbelltown AFC when they were strong in the Sydney AFL competition.

I've mentioned this a few times elsewhere and nobody believes it because of the lack of attendance records for the SFL but I clearly remember a newspaper article that mentioned a Campbelltown/North Shore game outdrew a West's game.

I've always felt the Blues made a mistake shifting to the ACTAFL for a couple of years even if it meant going to a stronger competition.

In hindsight, yes. If Easts and North Shore had Joined Campbelltown at Canberra or Campbelltown had remained in the SAFL things could have been very different. The first privately owned AFC was none other than Campbelltown.
