I guess the same reason almost 90 thousand went to watch a rugby league match ..... the sporting community of Victoria are dead set bored to death by the current dribble there being dished up.
Oh really? How come we still get the crowds that Sydney rugby can only dream of? How much did Penrith get last time out again? :<>

Pissing down rain in Perth & close to 17K! How many next tine I wonder?

Rude and correctly so because it is accurate.

And for the benefit of Raider "League" derived from "Union". So they are hardly chalk and cheese! However cheese does derive from milk so the analogy that Onions put is perfect!

Wow, some big names have come from NSW. Compare the following with zero NRL players from Victoria.
Great New South Welsh Footballers

Over the years, New South Wales has produced many champion players for leagues such as the Australian Football League, including Haydn Bunton Senior, Doug Strang, Gordon Strang, Terry Daniher, Neale Daniher, Anthony Daniher, Wayne Carey, Paul Kelly, Dennis Carroll, Billy Brownless, Troy Luff, Nick Davis, John Longmire, Shane Crawford, Ben Fixter, Richie Vandenberg, Ray Hall, Ricky Quade

Greg Stafford was regarded as the first real Sydney recruit in the modern era, forging a solid AFL career with both the Swans and Richmond Tigers, although in reality, Russell Morris and Sanford Wheeler had preceded him by many years.

Notable NSW Players in the AFL

Lewis Roberts-Thomson
Kieran Jack
Paul Bevan
Jarrad McVeigh
Ben McGlynn
Leo Barry
Brett Kirk
Henry Playfair
Ben Mathews
Adam Schneider
Dylan Addison
Lenny Hayes
Hamish McIntosh
Justin Koschitzke
Dean Solomon
Mark McVeigh
Daniel Cross
Ryan Houlihan
Cameron Mooney
Brent Staker
Tom Hawkins
David Trotter
Sam Gilbert
Nicholas Naitanui

Some of them are yes. Which is more than you can say for the NRL with no players from Melbourne or Victoria.

in 17 years time we'll have more Melbournians playing in the NRL then Sydneysiders having played AFL in 2011
at a fraction of the cost
not anything too much to claim though .. we'd only need .. 4

Some people arn't doing there homework again. Jack Webster & Jermy Smith who both have played with the Storm and both Victorian born. There have been a few others, not many but there have been others.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_leag ... le_players

Among the Victorian-born players to play in the NRL have included:

Jake Webster: (Melbourne Storm, Gold Coast Titans & Hull KR) [36]

Timana Tahu: (Newcastle Knights, Parramatta Eels & NSW Waratahs).[37][38]

Craig Polla-Mounter: (Canterbury).[39]

Peter Wallace (Penrith Panthers & Brisbane Broncos)

The only junior Victorian players to date to graduate to the NRL have been Jeremy Smith (Melbourne Storm & St George Illawarra) who played for the Altona Roosters and English-born Gareth Widdop,

There are others but I couldn't be bothered digging deeper. So the fact is there have been at least 2 Vic Rugbly League juiniors that have progressed to first grade One has actually played with the Storm and a few others that have been born in Victoria and played either with the Storm or other first grade teams.

Is there any playing for the Storm this season? No but there has been in the past and there will be in the future

Another AFL fan myth BUSTED

You just demonstrated how little you understand about the game, Raider. Many "fumbles" are actually tactical and intentional. It takes a lot of skill to manage that. It takes no skill at all to be a thug!

No one bothers with it in Sydney? Really? The Swans at elite level, West Sydney at the next level, 10 clubs at the next including three at the Sydney Universities.....need I go on? That's a larger perecentage than you want to admit.

The Storm have been in Melbourne since 98, going on 14 years. How long have the Swans been in Sydney?

Victorians will be popping up soon.
