Xman great ratings but the Sydney portion is lower then expected......but still great ratings. Weather it is a daytime game is irrelevant, the 2005 final was a daytime game and that got 4.5m so i would have to say i am surprised that it did not rate better in Sydney.
Whether its a day game is totally relevant, but yes it is lower than 2005. Remeber though that in 2005 Syndey hadn't won a GF for around 80 years so this would have increased interest levels. From memory the Sydney ratings compare to the 2006 numbers.
Okay well that is clear then, the Swans had curiosity factor and 80 years of drought which pulled the massive 900k in 2005.

Now if the year is anything to go by then this final needed to rate 4.5m minimum to justify those Fox ratings being legit. As it stands now those ratings are in Question no doubt about it.

On another note, how can the Presentation rate more then the Game itself........something not right there imo.
Rubbish. They are 300k higher than the metro ratings from last year. Foxtel is both regional and metro. The presentation was up by 500k on last years game for metro only.

I would say the presentation rated higher than the game because it probably includes the audience that watched the last 15 minutes of a close game, where as the game itself is averaged over 2.5hrs

You guys need to stop with the conspiracy theories. It just invaladates everything else you have to say. It you want to make a statement about the figures being false you need to have something called evidence. All I see is speculation using data which is incorrect half the time because you and others cant even get the figures correct.

I have a feeling we will see a twighlight GF sooner than later, especially considering clearly more people tuned in to yesterdays game in the late afternoon compared to early afternoon.

I could also see it as early as next year, plus with the presentations drawing 3.2m viewers, that's more then enough proof that the grand final would rate better at a later start.

Wasnt last years figure 2797?

Big increase in Sydney(alarming) but no where else. Down in Melbourne.

Let's compare the ratings to last year shall we
2011
Ten’s AFL Finals 2011: Grand Final Collingwood V Geelong 2,595,000 (Syd 258k Mel 1.36m Bri 308k Ade 297k Per 365k)
The 2011 Grand Final Post Match Presentation 2,106,000 (Syd 187k Mel 1.14m Bri 257k Ade 276k Per 271k)
The 2011 Grand Final Pre Game Ten 1,932,000 (Syd 141k Mel 1.09m Bri 229k Ade 204k Per 262k)

2012
Sat TV #AFLGF Metro 2,937,000 (Syd 609k Mel 1.33m Bri 295k Ade 309k Per 393k) Seven
Sat TV #AFLGF Presentations 3.19m
Sat TV #AFLGF Post Match 2.34m

Massive improvement and the slight melbourne drop was to be expected, i mean last year there were 2 victorian teams in the gf

no, that included a replay. The total was 2.6m.

No surprise Melbourne was down. Last year involved the biggest Melbourne club and Geelong which is included in Melbournes metro figures.

apparantly there was actually 740k viewers in sydney alone and over 1.4m viewers in melbourne, but that might have been from the presentations

The numbers for the AFL Grand Final hit a staggering 3.2m viewers yesterday.

They top the preliminary 3.1m for The Voice: The Winner Announced (but it reached 3.23m with Timeshifted data). It was nearly a record for the football -the highest rated AFL Grand Final since OzTAM began was 3.39m in 2005.

Seven tactfully divided the match into separate portions with the Presentations at 3.19m, and the bulk of the match still on a whopping 2.93m viewers. There were 1.4m viewers in Melbourne alone and another 740,000 in Sydney -not including clubs, pubs and restaurants.
Yep, 3.2m is a huge result, far higher than last year, and vindicates the increase in overall AFL ratings this year, including the increase due to foxtel. =D>
