Include it if you like. Roy Masters always has. You'll still lose this year though. As the finals ratings have shown, the AFL is a bigger more popular product, we all know that.enarelle wrote:Internationals involve different countries - strange concept I know. SOO is part of the NRL - just part of a more extensive product set.
So the AFL crew you just want to beat the parts of rugby league you can beat. Too scared of the full product set. I guess we always knew it just strange to see it written down not to mention the fact that it is now understood that SOO cannot be beaten.
Fight Club - Football TV Ratings (AFL vs NRL)

"Generous" of you to "let us" include it although out in the real world it does get included anway.
I guess more popular will be decided by the TV ratings and as the defending champions the NRL has a bit on the line.
Just to qualify will the AFL beat the 15 OZ clubs and makeup 12m in viewers or are they trying to beat the whole NRL and thus makeup 22m viewers?

I dont understand why you wouldnt include SOO in the NRLs totals (jelously?). It is part of the NRLs package and a big part of what makes it worth almost as much as the AFL in terms of $$$$. If the AFL wanted they could produce a similar SOO package but they choose not to. I bet if the AFL had a three game SOO package you would include this in the overall ratings.
Re: Fight Club - Football TV Ratings Thread
The only way that TV ratings can truly be used to gauge popularity is when they compare directly ie same number of games, same time slots, same exclusive or concurrent telecasts, same telecast length.enarelle wrote:"Generous" of you to "let us" include it although out in the real world it does get included anway.

The finals is about the only time we see this and the AFL win easy.

As to why I don't think soo should be included? It doesn't indicate popularity of NRL because its not regular NRL. It's a unique series event and should be compared on its own. The fact is the soo is far far more popular than regular NRL. Suggesting that SOO is a decent indication of the popularity of regular NRL is false because we know their ratings and attendances are far lower.

Re: Fight Club - Football TV Ratings Thread
SOO is important, just like Tests are, because the people of NSW/QLD/ACT recognize something bigger than their club IE their state and country. They will "pay the cost" of an interrupted club schedule and the potential of injured/tired players because of this. They are proud when their club players are selected for state and country.
The AFL only wins easy when the AFL sets the rules. The independent analysis fortunately dont work that way.

So which independent analysis showed the NRL winning the finals tv ratings?enarelle wrote:SOO is important, just like Tests are, because the people of NSW/QLD/ACT recognize something bigger than their club IE their state and country. They will "pay the cost" of an interrupted club schedule and the potential of injured/tired players because of this. Umm the independent analysis is the one done at the seasons end that adds up all the numbers and says who got the highest aggregate. The best known is Repucom.
Have the AFL crew decided that because they believe they are "winning" the finals series that this is a new special category to be measured?
Still interested to know are the AFL trying to beat/catch the 12m OZ ratings number or the 22m NRL number?

Talk about a sore loser, cant even accept it that the AFL is dominating in the ratings, even new zealand believes AFL is australia's biggest sportenarelle wrote:Umm the independent analysis is the one done at the seasons end that adds up all the numbers and says who got the highest aggregate. The best known is Repucom.

What on earth are you talking about?
Re: Fight Club - Football TV Ratings Thread
How can the NRL possibly win the ratings and be the most popular sport on TV when the AFL wins the individual finals ratings comparisons by so far despite running for 50% longer?enarelle wrote:Umm the independent analysis is the one done at the seasons end that adds up all the numbers and says who got the highest aggregate. The best known is Repucom.

Quick recap. For last season the NRL finished 10m viewers up on the OZ numbers and 22m up when you included the full NRL competition.
So has the AFL made up the 10m or the 20m? Hope your not relying on the TV ratings posted on this site as they are not even close when it comes to the NRL numbers.
The duration of the game/coverage has nothing to do with popularity as it is the same person watching.

Quick recap for you: the NRL had 7-8 exclusive broadcasts per round over a longer season, a far shorter broadcast for better averaging, and SOO thrown in, which resulted in the NRL media claiming some bogus victory in a meaningless cumulative ratings.enarelle wrote:Quick recap. The real sign of the most popular sport on TV is an apples v apples comparison like the finals series provides, where games a all exclusive, at a similar time, and of interest to a similar sized homeland market. The AFL have smashed it wide open.

Lol what a load of garbage again from you........

Apples vs Apples the NRL wins and easy.
Foxtell numbers have the NRL winning easy with a average of 280k during the regular season, the AFL is at 190k or there abouts.
FTA average for the regular season has NRL winning easy with over a million viewers for every match on 9.
You can have your game broadcasts on Fox, Speed, ESPN for all i care but when you compare apples v apples the NRL wins and easy.

Wanna see what apple vs apple looks like?

Re: Fight Club - Football TV Ratings Thread
See the final numbers were calculated by various independent organisations, the best known being Repucom. The NRL then went hey were number one. Still are till someone beats us.
And if your beating the NRL you need to have found nearly a million viewers a week. If you are beating the OZ part of the NRL then you need 500k per week.
The NRL has not gone backwards this year. As a matter of interest they were 61 of the top 100 Foxtel this year.
PS One more time SOO is NRL.So are the regional teams,so is the Warriors etc
