That, you wish to be true because you fear the Suns.
We all know nRL clubs can't compete with AFL teams. It's just a matter of time before the Suns are dominating the Titans in crowds.
More entertaining sports get bigger crowds. That's just the way it is.

I can comment on the suns as live here. Good media coverage , often leads the sports news, and growing support. On the morning radio yesterday they were saying how good the ground was and the atmosphere. One of them said that if you haven't gone get along. He said "I am a leaguie through and through and went along one day out of curiosity and was hooked".
Thing is it isn't a competition , both titans and suns cam
Co exist ? Why does it have to be one or the other ? Suns doing well with good membership and okay crowd numbers. I see crowd numbers probably staying around the 16 to 18 mark average over the years but if they win watch them explode. In saying that same goes for the titans

Good news from the Coast there. I think the other weekend where both teams got 19/20k proved that there's plenty of room on the coast for both teams. That being said, if someone has to win the crowd race this year I'd prefer it be the Suns

Make that six states and two territories.
You're a funny derro aren't you? I live in canberra, and In canberra no one besides the vic migrants give a shit about AFL and are all into the brumbies and mostly the raiders too. GWS will be extinct in canberra too if they attract 6k compared to the brumbies 15k and raiders 11k. Bye bye GWS

Gold Coast = AFL heartland

What about the titans first year? They got big crowds because their new. You watch, in 2014 the titans will get bigger crowds again and the titans have got bigger crowds this year already

Obviously another RD clone - I wonder if he will be a coward like RD and Eels?

I live in Canberra too, and this is absurd. No doubt the rugby codes are bigger, but not by nearly as much as you claim. The local Football comp is actually very strong, and need I remind you that the Giants outdrew the Raiders one weekend this year.....

Amazing how New South Welshmen can rubbish a game invented and played in their own country over some pommy game that was derived from another pommy game? Only in NSW doe they hate anything that doesn't fit in with their pre-conceived ideas on life - no one is asking them to like it - shit we don't need or want these RL bumsniffers to attend but they insist on telling us how shit the Australian game is compared to their pommy trash! Gotta wonder if there is any child services in that state because there is alot of kids that get dropped on their head at birth!

Mate, you don't seem to realise that AFL is just a modification of Gaelic football. Yes, American football and rugby league is a modification of rugby union, but their just as legit as australian football. I went to Melbourne recently and enjoyed essendon vs hawks, but I don't like the arrogance of the supporters if you catch my drift.

There is no evidence that the Irish had any input what so ever in the development of football (that's what it was called) in Australia.
In fact. quite the opposite. with Gaelic Football adopting "behind" posts after an expat returned from NZ.
We know that the original commitee specifically agreed to not adopt the rules of football from Cambridge (soccer) or from Rugby.
There is an argument that Tom Wills was influenced by his long association with Marngrook.
The game was unique in that it was based on kicking and catching with no offside play.
As you say American Football is legitimately seen as an American game though it was derived from Rugby.
Gaelic Football is legitimately Irish. even though it was codefied late and was influenced by Australian Football in later years.
Rugby is lucky because it carries the name of where it was codefied, the University of Rugby and is totally legitimate as an English game as is the game from Cambridge.
Now rl is a legitimate game. even though it broke away from the Union and presents itself as a streamlined version of RU, legitamte as a NE English game.
It can be argued that rl is an Australian game just like RU, Gaelic, soccer and American Football because it is played in Australia.
But Australian Football is clearly THE Australian Football game. That is due to history alone but all the KPIs say it's Australia's game due to poularity as well.
Really, rl fans waste so much energy trying to say to the contrary and you don't see people from other countries being so ridiculous.
They are all proud of their indigenous code even though they might not follow it.
It's about time rl fans did the same in Australia.

Just an update ... Southport state high school is ripping out their rugby league posts and putting up AFL posts, along with 165000 worth of lighting. That pretty huge as not many schools, if any, have an AFL oval let alone goal posts.

Oh, I was at my sons football presentation and the president mentioned it in his speech. It's a 30 year deal between southport junior football club and the school. The agreement with the club will put the lights up and the ground is available for training or games should the junior ground be closed due to rain affected. I said the rugby league posts are being pulled out and an AFL ground and posts put in.

That's what he reported and not sure he would say that in his speech if not true. Oh, whether you believe me or not is really no concern mine.
