OzTAM and RegionalTAM, based on 5 cap cities and 4 aggreated regional markets ex Tas
This is what the thinkTV counts: 5 city metro, Qld regional, NNSW regional, SNSW regional, Victorian regionals. Therefore their results exclude Tas, SA and WA regionals. They also seem to exclude secondary digital channels which give the AFL a 50-100k leg up.

Come back when you can introduce figures that count heartland audiences equally. While youre at it include our foxtel ratings since a fair few of our audience watch foxtel instead of FTA.

TV viewers switch on
By Callum Twomey 1:49 PM Mon 17 Sep, 2012

COLLINGWOOD'S semi-final meeting with West Coast on Saturday night was the highest-rating match of the season, drawing a television audience of 1.925 million viewers nationally.

The audience surpassed every game of last year, apart from the Grand Final.

Figures released on Monday also showed that the match was the most-watched AFL game on record for subscription television.

Adelaide's win over Fremantle on Friday night drew 1.753 million viewers.

Overall the two semi-finals had 3,679,185 viewers nationally, an increase of 862,000 over the second week of the 2011 finals series.

In total, 1.6 million more viewers have watched the finals series this year than at the same stage last season.

"These record numbers from the opening two weeks of the 2012 Toyota AFL Finals show that more people are watching the game than ever before," Gillon McLachlan, the AFL's chief operating officer, said on Monday.

"With Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and South Australia all represented in this year's finals up to the end of the weekend, we've seen significant viewing numbers from right around the country.

"With a Grand Final place on the line, we have two great preliminary finals this week and expect Sydneysiders to get behind the Swans for their clash with Collingwood on Friday night, while Adelaide will be keenly watching Saturday evening's match against Hawthorn."

NRL wins on FTA and Fox.

NRL has rated in the 400k for normal round games, the AFL rarely gets above 300k during the regular season.

NRL get those sought of ratings during our regular season on fox. You AFL fans are funny, you get some good numbers on fox during finals time and think that erases the thrashing you got all year long.......

you get these ratings because most of your games are on fox, most of our games are simulcasted onto fox from channel 7.

And thrashing all year long? aren't we the top rated sport in this country not only in ratings but in revenue, crowds and memberships? :-k :-k

the nrl is getting murdered these finals. during the year they have the advantage of 7-8 exclusive games per round compared to the AFLs 1 exclusive game (8 games shown concurrently). Now in the finals we see the true comparison of like for like and it aint pretty.

Yes. Last year the NRL beat the AFL by 10m on aggregate just on the oz numbers - by 20m if NZ included and thus the actual NRL compared to the AFL.

And we know the NRL has not gone gone backwards this year - actually up a bit. So you have to find 11m+ just to get equal in Oz.

The AFL has not yet produced a game to beat any of the SOO matches and reality is they will have only one shot at doing so.

Now with their 9 Fox games and 4 FTA the AFL crew could not possibly fail to beat the NRL in Oz could they? Too embarrassing?

So the final independent numbers are not far away.

Soo isn't NRL.

The AFL have the highest rating FTA and patty games, excluding soo.

The NRL have a shorter game (leading to a higher ratings average), far far more games shown in isolation, and a longer season. Yet they'll still get flogged in the cummulative ratings this year.

SOO is NRL. Fair dinkum just cause AFL doesn't have something no one else can have it. So the NRL cannot have its representative games, its regional teams and their TV ratings, teams in other countries and their supporters.

AFL "rules" are very restrictive.

It's a short series representing every NRL player and fan and has nothing to do with the NRL competition. Next you'll claim RL internationals are NRL

Internationals involve different countries - strange concept I know. SOO is part of the NRL - just part of a more extensive product set.

So the AFL crew you just want to beat the parts of rugby league you can beat. Too scared of the full product set. I guess we always knew it just strange to see it written down not to mention the fact that it is now understood that SOO cannot be beaten.
