Obviously the AFL has a following in Brisbane, GC, Sydney, Southern NSW, ACT and even Cairns.
Where as the NRL has a very small following in Melbourne.
Id say that puts AFL ahead.

did you even open the ABS link you lame brained lying doofus
NRL states population is 12.375 Million
Vicky Kicky states .. 10.350 Million
the number of people who follow Victorian rules in our states .. wouldn't be more then 100K or so
it really is quite unpopular
leaving us with a 1.9 Million lead
we win
end of

Sure did.
We all know the AFL is far stronger nation-wide while the NRL is essentially NSW and QLD only, and in no where near the numbers as AFL is in its home states.
The AFL wins hands down for national following, hence we win everything: crowds, sponsors, revenue, ratings, media interest, members......

who gives an F wether they're states or not
their populations prefer one sport or the other is what we are talking about
& I can assure you the only sport in the ACT worth mentioning is RL ..... Victorian rules would barely run 4th .. with 5% .. not 40
I live here .. I know
the Victorian game was barely mentioned by any canberrans I spoke to in 2012
except when we were laughing at how hopless the midgits were & wot an embarresment they are
its a very minor sport here
RL by a mile
union next
soccer
Victorain rules last in the football codes

the VFL is 2nd
its a struggle for them & its delusional supporters to accpet this .. so much so they can't even read a govt website to get accurate figures
so they now have lowered themselves to fudging TV ratings along with their crowds
what a sad pathetic state of affairs for the Victorian game

I dont think you really read the website correctly either. From what I have seen the estimate of 22.7 million doesn't have state by state breakdown. The only break down I can see is from the end of 2011. Where Xmans stats are more accurate.

Please provide evidence that Foxtel numbers include regionals. Would be truly amazing if they did as a separate company - Austar - provides the bulk of the countries regional coverage to this point. When the two are merged Foxtel NRL ratings will go up 50%.

Increased interest and increased availability due to better TV coverage. You should try it sometime. Oh wait, you took the cash.
Didnt the NRL get their highest ever SOO ratings this year as well? Howd that happen?

The AFL qualifying final 2011 was 1.165 (metro)million compared to this year at 1.335 (metro only approx) I would say an increase of about 170K or 13% but call it 30% if you want.

Based soley on last year (not the 4 previous) . Removing regionals for Fox its still over 200 000 or almost 20%!
