AFL total revenue for 2010 was $336m.

AFL projected revenue for 2015 $-23m.

The NRL projected revenue for 2015 is $100B.

The AFL reported a loss of 23.6m for the 2011 .

There is AFL revenue (AFL only) and then there is AFL revenue (AFL and clubs). The frist is 336 m the second is closer to 900 m.

The Suns and in particular GWS will survive for as long as the AFL wants to pump money into them. They are and will never be financially viable without the input of the AFL.

Of course the bigger question will be how long do the Victorian clubs let the AFL squander their inheritance on these interstate follies?
The suns made a small profit last year. They own their stadium and directly receive financial benefit from its use. The Giants would also have an attractive stadium deal. The AFL did an enormous amount of reseach into these teams including financial models. I dare say they know far more about it than you.

Agree with this. If anyone in 1988 said the Swans would be able to make millions in Sydney in the future they would have been laughed at. Who knows what the future will be like for sport. To say that they Giants and Suns will never make money is just silly.

The Suns made a small profit last year...........they also had averaged about 5k more fans to every home game.

The Suns are making a loss this year no double about it.

Now then this makes us all wander how much the Giants alone are loosing the AFL atm.

If the Suns made a profit last year, how is it that the projections on these 2 teams has gone up from 150m to 220m?

Damm the AFL must be loosing bucket loads of cash on GWS alone.....

a lot of the cash would be set aside for setup of both teams, like funding for stadiums. theyre one off payments.

The Suns have averaged more fans than the storm. The giants not far behind. Both these teams wouldnt have the stadium rental the Storm incur. Theres now talk news ltd are going to withdraw funding support for the storm. :-k

The Suns did not make a profit without including their handouts from the AFL.

I think that some of the reason as to why the 150m has gone up to 220 million has to do with salary cap going up about 30% over the next 5 years.

AFL supremo Andrew Demetriou still confident he's ahead in code cash war
Neil Cordy
The Daily Telegraph

AFL boss Andrew Demetriou is laughing all the way to the bank - yesterday weighing in on the NRL's $1.025 billion broadcast deal.

"If anyone thinks $925 million is as much as $1.15 billion cash, good on them," Demetriou told The Daily Telegraph.
