Massive difference in the comps. The AFL again got double the crowds, far more viewers on TV, and over double the revenue.

less then double the crowds for the first time ever

20 years ago it was triple to the fumblers .... its obvious who's growing .. & who's not

the NRL still is watched by more TV veiwers as no one is copping the double counted pay ratings seriously

twice the revenue
but
3 times the costs ........

NRL> VFL
BS, again

in 1992 the NRL averaged 11.7k per game and the AFL 26k, so just over double.

Since then the NRL have increased 5k average and so have the AFL, despite increasing the interstate games by 4 times. =D>

The NRL hasnt increased TV audience at all wwhile the AFL have increased by 30%. Keep your "double counting" crackpot theory to yourself.

The AFL spends their riches on better stadiums, better facilities, expansion and grass roots development. We've got the cash and we're spending it, while the NRL struggles to keep clubs afloat.

Bigger, richer, better
oh .. my mistake

it wasn't 20 years ago ..... it was only 14 8-[
1998 when the VFL average was more then 3 times the NRL's

the VFL fall from grace has been more dramatic then even I realised :-k

bigger eh ?
22 extra games & 260,000 less spectators
richer eh ?
the VFL is about to announce another loss in 2012 with more of its clubs in financial trouble then ever
better eh ?
the largest amount of blow out margins in living memory with the gap between top & bottom further apart then its ever been.

marcus .. keep polishing that turd
it'll shine one day I'm sure of it 8-[

Why would the AFL announce a loss?

What evidence do you have that they are announcing a loss?

The loss they announced last year included one off payments for the development of stadiums for the Suns and Giants. That wont happen again and is a great financial decision that will benefit them for years to come.

As I showed, in the last 20 yrs both codes have increased their average attendance by 5k, and this takes in to account the one off drop in attendance the AFL will incur due to expansion teams, live TV against the gate, and a number of stadia under renovations.

Fail Dave, big fail.

X, please explain to us how an increase in expenses plus a decrease in revenue (one more game to put on, crowd average down on 2011) cannot be anything but a loss?

There are other revenue sources other than general admission you know.

The AFLs loss last year was the first in a decade and was essentially only due to establishment costs ie stadia. This years final series alone will reap substantially more than previous years despite a drop in numbers.

hardcore AFL fans get to go to the GF. Everyone else gets to watch it on TV. Even with the high prices of GF tickets they could sell the GF out 3 times I recon.

Yes exactly the attitude of the money hungry unethical AFL org.

Numerous swans members didnt go, because of the costs involved. Seems like members who dont have the moolah arent hardcore fans eh Helen?

What? Rubbish! Yes the finals are expensive but they are available for all fans. The regular season games are more affordable than the NRLs. Who's money hungry?

355 bucks a pop + the 150 odd a pop for the prelim? Yeah right thats available for all fans. Such a shame the most anticipated games of the season are effectively only marketed to those wealthy enough. For shame [-X

No, $80-160 for the prelims. The GF is very expensive but lets be honest, your team only reaches the GF maybe twice a decade, so in reality its not that much. Whats important is to make regular games affordable and this is where the AFL have it all over the NRL, especially for our precious children. :D

What utter BS. The ground only holds 100k. Only members get a chance to go. Seriously, who cant afford $300-400 to watch what could be a once in a life time event that lasts for 5-6hrs? The AFL have even adjusted their ticketing this year to allow more members of the participating teams to go. :thumbleft:
