So why do the AFL, in promoting the sport use slogans on banners and in other advertising like..."Play AFL!"

So Stewie and Xman my simple members, using your own interpretations, I imagine you would now see the AFL organisation as "lacking intelligence"...?

For marketing. What's the problem with it?

But how do you 'play' an organisation which runs the professional football league Xman? I'd get it if they were referring to a game like english premier league manager, but they're not, they're referring to the sport of australian rules, or a more accurate name, marngrook.

Its quite the marketing ploy I agree, but I think it's wrong for an org to market itself as the name of the game. Anyway i guess its got you guys following like zombies to a live man. So...continue on in your ignorance, i dont wanna burst your bubble :)

Maybe this one's ok folks...actually no, he needs considerably more questioning. And the wink on the end confirms this one's a bona fide crackpot, he's a goners folks  Please allow me to start from the beginning of the interrogation.

The AFL own auskick which they may promote as AFLauskick all they want. It teaches skills related to aussie rules and some times has practice matches with a similar structure as aussie rules. It is not the same game though and is not aussie rules. However I dont like that the AFL is promoting the game of aussie rules as AFL as it has done in NSW and Qld. I even found one of my students (I think he is from interstate) calling it AFL which made me want to given him a clip. Aussie rules is much bigger then the AFL and I dislike them trying to brand the sport as AFL.

I don't think it is strange. I don't like it though. Claiming the game is called AFL. I think they made a long term error promoting the game as that.

I'd have to agree, the game is Aussie rules not AFL. But KE thinks this is corruption

I think they should change it to something like "Play Footy" and if they insist just have a miniature AFL logo in there somewhere to differentiate between the rugby's. I've never seen the Play AFL sign in Adelaide before, but in the Gold Coast I saw it a bit.

AFL boss Andrew Demetriou said the Swans' and Giants' 9.8 per cent cost of living allowance is unlikely to be removed.

Club presidents will meet in Melbourne today to discuss the issue as part of a review of equalisation of revenue among the clubs.

"I have no reason to believe that it (salary cap allowance) won't stay," Demetriou said. "It's served the clubs well. All the data we did three years ago shows there is a differential (in the cost of living between Sydney and the rest of Australia)."

Melbourne club bosses began complaining about the cost of living allowance just days after the Swans claimed last year's premiership. That it was Hawthorn leading the complaints hasn't escaped the attention of the Swans.

Giants coach Kevin Sheedy also bought into the debate when he penned an open letter to Hawthorn president Andrew Newbold calling him Andrew Newbloke and accusing him of self-interest and hurting the growth of the game. :-k :-k integrity gonnnneeee...

Demetriu described cross-border skirmishes between Sydney and Melbourne clubs as fair game.

"It's all fair in love and war. Great democracy, Australia," Demetriou said.

But the AFL chief did weigh in on the Swans' side when it came to the accusation from Carlton CEO Greg Swann that the premiers abused their cost of living allowance.

Swann said the Swans used the extra cash from the 9.8 per cent allowance to recruit Kurt Tippett. "I don't subscribe to that view," Demetriou said.

"The Swans have demonstrated that they have applied their allowance of 9.8 per cent across their whole list.

"At the pre-season draft there were only two clubs who could get Tippett; the Swans and the Giants.

"I don't think they've done anything wrong at all."

Keep rigging the competition boys, not one person from AFL heartland will notice..............

theres a long thread on big footy about sheedys letter. He was roundly applauded. Heartland AFL voted for expansion and the vast majority of fans can see the real benefit of a more national comp.

Even the NRL can see this, they just haven't got the smarts or support to do it

 Benefits? The comp was a lopsided mess last season. It's been rightly quoted as the most uneven comp in AFL history...and id suggest in Australian professional sports history.

 benefits.
