The way it carries on eventually no RL fan will debate him about Footy.

As sports fans, we're really rolling into such an exciting time of year. Finals football, Spring racing and Bathurst all the pinnacles of their respected sports. On Friday night while watching the Roos and the Cats go head to head we took a glance at Channel 9 to do a score check. Wow, I knew things were bad but was surprised that there were so many empty seats considering it was a Sydney match with two big Sydney clubs. Is the NRL really in this much trouble? I can't see Channel 9 paying a billion dollars next time around if that's the case it's presenting. Is it time to accept that it's a game that's wounded, bleeding out and dying a prolonged miserable death? With ratings begining to look like a stone kicked off a cliff, dwindling crowds and the financial woes of many clubs; is this just another wound in an already crippled game? Will sponsors who invest huge amounts of money, continue to see benefit in poor ratings and empty seats which all have an impact on negative exposure. I really do think that the game is in grim times and unless something is done shortly it might be too late. It's a shame to see such a historical game fall by the wayside. Growing up in country NSW RL heartland it really is a sign of the times when enetering a pub, the big screen has the AFL on while the little one tucked between the Sky and Keno monitors is left to the NRL.
