Your list means nothing as it doesn't account for concurrent games.

Further, subscription rates in NSW are around 40%, so payTV is available to approximately 2.9million NSW people. QLDs subscription rates are about 30% so 1.35million qlders have access.

AFL states have subscription rates around 25%, so that's around 2.7million people.

So the NRL heartland states have 4.25million subscribers and the AFL states 2.7million.

The NRL should completely dominate! Yet they don't, not at all. Sure, theyre ahead on the payTV ladder, but they have almost double the subscribers, yet when the AFLs concurrent games are added they well and truly even out the ladder.

Nice one!

XMan the people that fork out $billions for football rights couldn't give a F... about concurrent games. The only thing they will be interested in is that the NRL has 4 of the top 5 shows on PTV and (as of tommorrow) 4 of the top 5 show on FTA tv.
#-o the only reason I mention concurrent games is because the total ratings of each code cannot be used to accurately gauge the popularity of each code because many of the AFLs games are shown concurrently against another AFL game. You don't seem happy to add them together. But you know very well that the entire audience of either code cannot watch two games at once! [-X claiming the averages of concurrently shown games in isolation is disingenuous and you know it. [-X

The people that fork out the billions care about ratings but also how long these ratings go for. The AFL goes for 50% longer than the NRL.

Having great ratings on FTA and foxtel concurrently means both networks are willing to pay handsomely for the one game, so in effect double payment. Can the NRL boast this? How would we know? None of their games are shown concurrently. If their audience was split they could drop significantly, greatly reducing the value of either component.

The average weeknds ratings for the NRL this year is 2,729k.

The average weekends ratings for the AFL this year is 3,965k.

These figures are without regionals. According to Roy Masters figures last year the NRL had an average of 1200k per round and the AFL about 800k.

So the AFL is ahead by a very tidy sum indeed of about 450k per round despite having only 5-6 games shown in isolation compared to the NRLs 7-8.

Easy!
So your saying that the NRL with half as much coverage is behind by 450k a week regionals and metro combined?
If you ask me that's impressive for the NRL, if the NRL get anything near what the AFL has in coverage next year then its going to be a good year for us Rugby league lovers. :D
Not at all.

I'm saying despite the fact the NRL include SOO, internationals, a longer season, and 2-3 more exclusive games per round, they will be well behind this year.

Note that if the NRL do end up with more FTA and payTV games, with more live, how do you think this will effect their already dismal attendances? We already know how soft Ral fans are. If the weather is wet, cold, or even nice, the crowds drop significantly! All this despite the fact the FTA coverage for many NRL teams is diabolical! Imagine if the coverage increases like you are suggesting! The crowds could drop below A league!

You have 9 3hour matches . That is both an advantage and disadvantage of your setup. That is not going to change , not in the near future anyrate.

If you want me to put up a list of the top rating games (AFL: PTV + FTA) I will. But you cant expect to use your PTV viewers in both lists.
