Ah, the GWS crowd was 3 times larger than the corresponding NRL showdown the night before. The Melbourne storm, NRL ladder leaders, drew 12k on Sunday against no sporting opposition. This week they are playing at the same time as Coll v Haw across the road. This game will draw 80-90k while the storm draws another crowd in the low teens.

A result of 82k on 7mate, plus foxtel is pretty good for GWS, especially against an NRL game on foxtel.

Somehow I think the AFL is FAR more relevant in Sydney than the NRL is relevant in any state or territory outside NSW ACT or QLD combined.

The Olympics is a classic example where people will watch sports like diving or badminton in huge numbers for a single event. But when it comes to a full season of national competition that wouldn't attend if you paid them. AFL is well attended and watched compared to regular season RU in NSW and QLD.
