Thanks Pussycat. Imagine how big the Collingwood V WestCoast game would have been if it was exclusive to FOX. WA got that game on FTA TV. Some of the other games were poor. GWS game and the Brisbane lions games were poor ratings. Again both were FTA into local markets, however I dont think that would have made to much difference. Qld and NSW markets might have made up 40K max.

For this round the 3 games that were on Foxtel and not broadcast to Melbourne on Saturday and Sunday averaged 249K. WB V BL, COLL V WC and NM V ADEL, The other three where broadcast live into Melbourne and other local team markets. For the three Foxtel games. COLL V WC got 153K FTA into Perth. NM V ADEL got 167 FTA into Adelaide and WB V BL got an unknown amount into the Brisbane market. It is my opinion that there is little difference between the codes in terms of average PTV numbers when the AFL games dont overlap.

It will go back to normal next week.

Wouldn't it be more accurate to take an average, of the past 3 weeks Sat/Sun matches? If you do theres quiet a difference NRL = 275, AFL = 215

XMan, using your time scale I would have thought you considered 4.30-7.30 of a Saturday evening/night to be prime time? Oh dear thats right in the middle of the news.

But somehow 5.30-7.30 is [-o<

The only match you would consider in a non prime time timeslot would be the Sunday game. And that overlaps with another game 100%. Faced with a problem like that you would squeal like a stuck pig.
Though It would still rate higher than the vast majority of your games.

6-10 is prime time. That's why shows like the news etc are scheduled during those times. One and a half hours of the collingwood match was played outside these hours. Only half an hour of the RLs 5.30pm game is played out of those hours.

Got it?

Read pies post again. This week we had some of the only isolated payTV games and they rated extremely well. Normally the AFLs payTV games are shown against another payTV game or a FTA game.

The reason I removed some games was because they were broadcast into 2 or more markets on FTA. Eg Melbourne V GWS was broadcast into VIC,WA and NSW FTA.

Now correct me if I am wrong but I am counting 10 games which fall under this category for the last 3 weeks. The AFL are averaging 251.8K over the last 3 weeks. Which is similar to the NRL average on Saturday and Sunday. I am also getting an average of 267.25% for the NRL over the last 3 weeks. I might have to make sure I am doing my maths correctly and list all of the games for both sides.

EDIT: I was wrong for the AFL games 229K average.

AFL PTV saturday and sunday PTV + one local market to FTA over the last 3 weeks
NM V ADEL 229K
COLL V WCE 355K
WB V BL 162K
WB V PORT 208K
HAW V BL 206K
GC V NM 250K
GWS V RICH 228K
PORT V HAW 240K
GC V STK 191
RICH V FREO 222

average 229K

NRL Saturday and Sunday average PTV last 3 weeks

CAN V MEL 257K
PEN V PAN 325K
NQL V CAN 253K
GC V PEN 159K
PAR V SOU 322K
CRO V NZ 323K
CRO V GC 250K
NEW V CAN 249K

Average 267.25K

So about a 38K advantage to NRL PTV only.

I Wont argue with you , I'll just simply point out that using your time schedule and logic. Your match was shown in the prime timeslot 1.5 hours 6 - 7.30. Yet the NRL timeslot you choose to ignore is shown in the same timeslot for the same time .

Ps the slot averages about 300K and has a high of 373

Half the AFL match was shown before 6pm. HALF! This would have a big impact on the average ratings.

Only 30 minutes of the NRL game was shown before 6pm, having a far small impact on the ratings of a game that is already far shorter.

I did misread your last post, but why do AFL fans need to continually make excusess for there competition. It seems to be a never ending case of but-but-if's but :) Your matches go for 3 hours, thats just the way it - wear it!

They aren't excuses, they're reasons. If you take games in isolation that are shown concurrently they will always result in a lower audience individually. If the NRL didn't add their ratings for their FN live games they wouldn't win a single week against the AFL. Is that an excuse? :-k how about the fact the NRL lose the ratings total for every weekend by over 1 million despite having more games shown in isolation? What's the excuse there? :-k

I would say there reason is that they only have 3 FTA games with one of them effectively live. But I guess that is an excuse as well.
